Today I bought.....

Recommended Posts

All non-paper silver has gone up but needed to buy something. So got few dollars from auction.

26,5€ for morgan dollar 1889

20,5€ for peace dollar 1923

Saw everything 1oz bullion going 23-30€. Even more popular were silver forks etc. All thought those have always had more bidders than coins in some auctions. I dont know if that is age question, but older people bid on those.

Is no one proudly talking about their Coin Cabinet auction purchases? I managed to get two items. The 2015 Quarter Sovereign and the 1987 Half Sovereign. Very pleased. Also wanted the 2016 Quarter Sov and had placed the next bid up but my internet dropped and it didn't go through. I was crazily willing to go up to 400.00 for that one...call me mad, but it's one I've been after for a while! Whoever got it (if on here) well done - it is a stunning coin!!

Pictures to follow on the 'today I received' thread...

Cheers @shawy2510. I do use Ebay but the coins ALWAYS arrive covered in finger-prints etc. where I can get graded I do for this reason........I have bought raw from Chards recently (my first order) - a 2010 and a 2018 and they were both in stunning condition and should (I think) get a PR70 once I am able to start sending to PCGS post C-19. I should shout out to @LawrenceChard because I ordered last Weds evening and the coins were with me on the Friday morning. Brilliant service.

Thanks for the heads up. I prefer PCGS but would take a NGC at the right price so it can be cross graded. The only issue here is that I think the standards at NGC are different to PCGS (i.e. lower) because a couple of NGC coins were returned as they would not grade at the same level (both were PF70 and I had asked for PR70 they would only do PR69 on both). This is one of the reasons I prefer PCGS - I believe that their standards are higher which is why you get less higher grades and they tend to sell for better prices.

I should add to the above that the opinion is only based on my own experiences and I appreciate that many people prefer NGC for their own reasons which may be equal to mine in terms of NGC providing them a better service. I can only speak about my own experiences and choices.

I had an unmarked 2016 1/4 in its RM box with certificate listed for sale on here last Autumn- from memory I was asking £120 ish- and no takers- eventually, and after a lot of tyre kicking it eventually sold for £115 on eBay- I watched the Coin Cabinet Auction yesterday in disbelief!

Thanks for the shout out, but it should go to our staff.

We closed our showroom to the public last week, before the government order, and out of a full team of about 18, we have just 3 or 4 in the office, picking, packing, and shipping orders, receiving deliveries.

Five are working from home multi-tasking around childcare.

Some staff have been starting work at 6 a.m.; others answering e-mails until 10.30 p.m.

We managed to provide all or most home-workers with a notebook PC and a company mobile.

Installed a new IP based telephone system.

We did fail to answer over 90% of the 300 per hour incoming telephone calls late last week though. Must try harder!

We provided all our staff with high quality masks. I am still appalled that most supermarkets and other nationwide shops have failed to provide masks for their staff, and as for NHS staff not having PPE before now, it is incomprehensible. W.H.O. issued a major epidemic alert as early as 31st January. Our leaders have no reasonable excuse. (End of rant).

We also added more software and back-office system upgrades last week than in a normal month.

👍👏 to your staff!

I empathise with your rant - The "System" should , with ALL the modern systems available, be able to implement, what is basically simple logistics and utilise a Gannt chart
