I can be cheery and let it rot without you realising, or i can be cheery and help point out the problem so you can hopefully not lose all your money you've just spent.

My posts and knowledge are free of charge.......There is a plus 😁

Luckily I was going to Spink today to see NGC UK and so I was able to stop by and discuss this with one of their experts. They reviewed the pics and your comments and the verdict was it’s a good coin and that there are no immediate signs of any issues. They said that it should be stored in a dry place as with all copper/bronze coins and they said that it is conservable but there is no reason yet to conserve it. They recommended review every 10 years and noting any condition changes but that I may be waiting a long time.

Thanks for your comments and alerts as without this I would probably have thought about conservation which is not needed.

I would have thought the fact there was verdigris on the coin was an immediate sign of an issue, then saying it's conservable would mean that they see the issue but they know better........Good luck, will be interesting to see it in 10 years if you still have it in that time........I copied a link for you from elsewhere, as i said though, Spink know better

Verdigris will eventually get below the surface of the coin and pit the coin and corrode it since it is oxidation. It can be arrested and conserved but in both cases, the damage is done. (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/corrosion-and-pvc-damage-on-copper-coins.209460/)

Will you get it conserved by NCS first before grading?

It appears some idiot has drawn on it with a marker pen 😋

I've confused 3 and 8s before.

I need 'optical assistance' nowadays, my specs don't cut it.

☹️

The 8 being struck first, then the error was spotted by the mint and the 3 being struck over the 8 to cover the 8, there is something faint with the loop of the bottom of the 3 and right in the middle of the opening

how can there be a 3 over 8 error?

ie in 1913 they had some remaining 1918 sovs and stamped

3 over 8. on a timeline this doesn't make sense.

if the sovs were 1908 they would be edward sovs?

Correct, the timeframe doesn’t fit. Errors don’t come from timeframes, they come from people picking up the wrong punch, that’s why we have such errors as V for A in VICTORIA, the A doesn’t fit at the beginning of Victoria. Mint workers weren’t the sharpest tools in the box in those days

They didn't overstamp the coins but the dies. Ir's not possible on the coins if you think about it as the date and legend are raised.

Persoanlly I think it's a 3 over an inverted 3

Anubis - Gods of Anger Series

Ordered a new release from the Mint of Poland.  They know how to make some great coins!  Their previous releases have been doing very well and it being an Egyptian God sealed the deal for me.

I have come to accept that I am much more of a collector than a stacker ;)

So, finally I managed to take some pictures of my new proof half sovereigns. What looks like scratches/dirt, is the capsule. You don't even see that with your bare eyes. Acutally, I looked at them through a microscope, you can see what is the caspsule and what is the coin, there. You can also see some micro scratches on some parts of the field (completly unvisible with your bare eyes and none at all at others) but no comparison to my bullion coins and I won't grade it anyway. So, I really like my first proof coins, although I will still mostly stick to bullion coins.

Edit: Not sure what this paper looking thing, on the left part of the capsule of the left coin is, it's from the secondary market and I won't open it, so that I don't add a few new microscratches.

Edit2: Oh no, is it possible the dates look odd - the 0s different on the two coins and the 2s as well?

This post is  a few days old but I order this 1959 sovereign on EBay. I'm nervous that it may be a fake but someone checked the serial number on the slab and it's seems to be real but I hear that people steal real serial numbers and use them to fool people into thinking that will receive a real coin. Anyways, all you British people have wonderful gold coins and thank you @Numistacker for all the sovereign videos as this purchase was because of you. As an American, I could buy a lot more of these than pre 33 gold.
