Delighted to say that I bought this delightful coin.

In 1831 there were 225 of these minted for the Proof Set.

Beautiful coin - you didn't go for the sovereign or double sovereign then?? (or maybe you did:P)

I didn't get the coin I was after, it went for >$10,000 in the end, it wasn't even the key date in the series and I was expecting much much less as they are usually ~$1000! My attempted date-run will now revert to a typeset:lol:

I managed to get the matching 1831 6d last night and I know how much you love a sixpence.. it’s the only one graded as DCAM by PCGS or NGC

A 2014 India Sovereign graded MS68 DPL by NGC.

Grading makes people mental. You’re very lucky if you can pick these up raw on eBay for less than £300 and yet, I only paid £252 shipped for this, £17.50 less than I sold a bullion 1959 Sovereign for 10 mins earlier.

The lesson is crack open all those modern 68’s and under before selling.

Not criticizing here, just surprised at the grade of the coin considering the scratch in the REV. As you probably know they mark down coins such as the 1902 proof sets for “mint wipes” or some lustre rub which my 1851 6d had. I’d be wary of sending that to NGC for a re-slab if you decide to go that route. The verdigris on the OBV will eat in that also, it needs treating. Edit: looks like the scratch is the slab.....

I was going to say that i think the scratch is on the slab as the pics on the PCGS site dont show it. I was planning to keep it in a PCGS slab and I cant see any value in crossing this to NGC assuming it would cross. There are only a couple of non cameo's better than this and a few cameos but this is better than average. I havent seen it yet so will see what it looks like in person.

If i'm being honest, with the verdigris it really doesn't matter, if that continues untreated it will eventually bore a hole through the coin, so grade at  this point doesn't matter as it would be difficult to sell to a British collector, not saying you're not a British collector, but you've more than likely been looking at slab number and not what's inside.

I'm actually surprised PCGS graded it, but i assume they only look at a coin' grade and not the bronze disease.

I can be cheery and let it rot without you realising, or i can be cheery and help point out the problem so you can hopefully not lose all your money you've just spent.

My posts and knowledge are free of charge.......There is a plus 😁
