So it's you pair who keep sniping me at the last minute on the sovs I've bid on. :)

Some jump up in price quite a bit just at the end but others go for good prices.  I thought I was going to end up winning a lot of shields all at once after I was locked out of Paypal earlier today because of a 2 step authentication problem.

Not me, I haven't bid on a sov on ebay for a couple of weeks, must be @numi.

If you want a load, try going straight to Andreas and bypassing ebay, you might get a deal.

Today I got 2 pandas. One 2013 for $24 and one 2014 for $24.50. I also got a 2016 kookaburra. I really like the 2016 kookaburra look.

Love the 2016 kooks also.. and they are surprisingly affordable, with premiums also comparable to brits, but you also get the capsule as standard so it's really a bargain.  I have already amassed about 35 of them and will be buying more each month. Great coin.

The premiums are affordable for me especially since I am just getting my feet wet in silver. I found a new LCS (well new to me) that is selling them for 4.50 over spot. Hoping spot will drop another Dollar or so. That way I can get them cheaper then the $22.10 I spent on the one.

Shame about those scratches and marks around the cheek area as that is a lovely coin. Good place to buy, Andreas has a lot of shields at the moment and ebay is currently cheap.

Sniping is dangerous as you can end up paying too much but I think the one I bough was good value at £275 )) why didn't you bid more ?

It doesn't seem to matter how much I bid in many cases as people still snipe so unless I really want something or have some spare time to watch the end of an auction I usually just put in what I would be happy paying.  Sometimes you don't expect to win and end up paying a great price, or just get outbid, but all too often the price shoots up to a very high price in the last seconds.

I only wish I'd bid on the ones that went for around £220 to £230 lately.  Then again if I'd bid on those would probably have ended up selling for over £250. :)

HGM is £235 for a sight unseen bullion sovereign ... What would you rather have?

Last night I bought a 10 peru soles coin from coininvest. Quite a heft premium on that one but happy I pulled the trigger last night after much thinking. Figured I would be more upset having to pay more if we left than I would be happy paying a little bit less if we voted remain;

Lovely coin. I've developed a bit of an interest in South American gold myself. I want one!

Thanks for corrupting me KDave ;)

This one is a Melbourne mint 1884 and it was £260 inc delivery. I know shields are more expensive than bullion Sovs but I believe that this is a better buy than bullion right now and these will hold value or move higher in the event of a pullback in spot or the £. I know Sovs are a fraction under the 1/4oz but 260 is cheaper than a new queens beast!

It doesn't have quite the quality as the 1882-M I bought but that was £80 more.

At £260 these shields are by far the best buy at the moment. They are trading at the same prices as they were when gold was £100/oz or even £200 cheaper.

If gold drops again, I've no doubt they'll hold their value. If gold rises, the price of these coins will have to go up as well.

I must be on the right track.... There seem to be a lot of shields hitting the market over the last two weeks and there have been large numbers in non bay auctions too maybe that accounts for the good prices. It is unusual as generally there are few on the market.

Yes I've noticed that, people must be selling when they see the gold price rise. Shields being a collector's coin won't have the number of buyers to support the price when the market gets "flooded". Make hay:D

I can't decide on a sovereign or an 8g panda, any ideas?

How much is a 8g panda and what's the mintage likely to be? (checked £269 at Goldsilver.be) Compare with the current selling price of a comparable mintage 1/4oz panda to see what the potential upside is likely to be. There again buy one if you like them;)

For that money, you could buy a nice shield from ebay with some upside at today's prices.

Personally, I generally don't like modern gold coins. Silver yes, but for collectable gold coins I much prefer the traditional coinage designs.
