Atkinsons - site revamp

Still takes ages to field around and actually find coins they have in stock. I thought the coloured lines might signify stock but no! Why is it so difficult to only show coins in stock?

Am I missing something? HGM can do it.

Couldn't agree more.

I also thought the coloured lines were availability related, but sadly not.

Some do state 'out of stock' underneath which is an improvement to clicking on them to find out.

Are they ever going to back track on this priced in 'free' postage and 'mix and match'?

I'd be tempted by one of those 2007 gold Brits if my funds weren't tied up.  I'll check back in January :|

I've just had a quick look and used coins which were out of stock have been removed.  New items which are visible and out of stock state they're out of stock now.  There is a chance they've missed some but it looks like we should be able to identify out of stock items now.

I see they've added mix and match for gold but at present it has a very limited range.  Hopefully they will expand on it.

Yes that does seem a lot better. I was actually surfing their site yesterday for the first time in ages and was getting quite excited over all the Victorian half sovereigns shown until I clicked on them and found they were all out of stock. A big let down.

I think atkinsons have taken eye off ball, in the last month have tried Internet chat a fair few times, about half time I get a reply and when I do they don't seem helpful like they used to

was looking at the 1g bars this week and since revamp the quantity discount you have to buy 5 to get decent discount before it was only 2

Agree, I no longer buy from them.

They have cancelled cash sales, which I used to do a lot.

The chat function, as you say, you either get no response (even though it says operative available) or an unhelpful response.

I spoke to them via chat the other week, they couldn't answer my question so said they would call or email me back. I have heard absolutely nothing.

There are too many dealers out there to play these games with customers, I'll shop elsewhere thanks.

Shame though, they were good.

Is this a beautiful coin or what? was just looking over Atkinson's site and saw this,,wish i had the cash under the floor boards for this one.

They have that 1oz silver Gorilla coin in stock too. It's under £20 but to much for me still working on my average.

Nice coin indeed, but the three spelling mistakes in the description is just another nail in the Atkinsons coffin for me.

  • x27 months zero APR on the Post office credit card currently,
  • x26 months zero APR yorkshire/clydesdale bank CC
  • x25 months at Sainsbury CC

.................................................................................

£743 + 2% cc charge £9.46 = £752.46 / 27 = just £27.86 per month

Sounds cheap when you say it like that :)

But hey all debt is bad so dont listen to crazy Paul

If someone has trouble getting hold of £743 then it's likely they are not in a position where they should be borrowing money in the first place. That is the debt paradox, the paradox being that if you can afford things then you have no need of the debt and if you can't afford things...well you shouldn't get the debt.

If it were just one item, just a one off it wouldn't be a problem but it never usually ends there, it's basically the same as saying to someone "why don't you try some crack?"

No much better to say "well if you want this particular item, then consider selling to us a few of your other items in exchange"

On the topic at hand though, i'm not a fan of there being all those different date sovereigns at higher prices, it would be better to charge different prices for different groups, like 1958-1982, 2000-2015 , 1900-1930 etc or specific king/queen.

I understand what you are saying but, purely for balance rather than disagreement, I like it.

It helps those who are trying to complete a collection and 'just need that 1906 to complete the Edwards' or perhaps someone with a grandfather who was born in 1916 and you want to present him with a 1916/2016 duo for his centenary.

I don't mind paying a premium to purchase something specific. For pure bullion, it's HGM lucky dip every time  :)

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

"There is no such thing as public money, there is only taxpayers' money"

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

Glad to hear that Atkinsons (A good retailer!) are doing a revamp. I may include them into my EGI and ESI analysis basket over the coming weeks. There was NO Gold or Silver Shortage in the supply chain and my Indexes showed up the fear stories that are reluctantly being explained away on youtube. Premiums are the same as they were in 2004! 5% and 18-24.5% for Silver less VAT. Static premiums work well for retail profits in rising price conditions but cause profitability problems in falling prices conditions. Static spot prices are best for the market as a whole rising with money supply expansion. Then a certain number of ounces of something always buys you the same fine suit in any year.

It would be ok if the postage went on at the basket.  If you buy a few then you're paying the priced-in postage three times.

I agree with that. Have often wanted to buy a couple of pieces but can't be bothered contacting the shop to try and negotiate the extra postage off the total, it's a shame as I think they will lose a lot like this.

They won't do it.

In fact, they won't even knock anything off if you collect!!!!

Pre-Owned 2013 UK Britannia 1oz Gold Coin £752

Pre-Owned 2007 UK Britannia 1oz Gold Coin £749

2015 UK Britannia 1oz Gold Coin £751

2016 UK Britannia 1oz Gold Coin £750

Around £750 which is about right.

But then we have....

Pre-Owned UK Britannia 1oz Gold Coin - Mixed Dates £875

Someone must have entered the wrong base price.

It enables them to get a couple of pounds extra for essentially a bullion sovereign, so of course they're going to continue doing it.

I'm in favour as it enables me to keep an eye out for a bargain or just a date I want.
