I have a slight affinity to dinosaurs and paleontology, having worked for a paleontologist for a few years during summers while going through university. We would do digs out in South Dakota and recovered a full triceratops skull and partial skeleton during one extended dig. It was long tedious days and woefully unglamorous. I worked for a self-proclaimed paleontologist who focused mostly on the return of the investment as a business. We would also make high density foam composite replica skeletons of full scale accurate Triceratops for sale...primarily to Japan and their interests in paleontological specimens. Just thought I would share another unique experience in my highly diversified CV...it was a special opportunity of one’s life that helped shape perspectives and influence the course of one’s life. So, yes, I can say I have dug up dinosaurs...and salvaged Russian submarines...that is a whole other story!😁

Here’s to a hopeful highly desired new release from The Royal Mint!!🙌

Hmm, similar experience @CadmiumGreen

I've  'dated' a few monsters in the past and once went down on a russian too but, as you say, that's a whole other story 😉

Showed this to my lad this morning, he asked why the dinosaurs all looked like they’d been to the gym...looking at them they do seem like they’ve been bench pressing.

I think I’d have been interested in these if they were something other than a 50p.

These are aimed at the kids. They even have an app you can download that scans the box and leads to hidden information/features. I would imagine the mintage will be huge. Likely at least 60k.

This seems such a strange idea by those doing it; I don't get why you would aim them at kids when presumably they're going to be £50+ each

Kids are more likely to be interested in cards, add in some holographic ones to make them more fun

£2.99 a pack and they're learning just the same and it wont matter if they get banged up or lost

Coins and silver coins especially aren't the way to go with this

My four year old grandson has got his finger on the trigger for this one 😃  Coin collections are very popular with the younger generation. He loves to look at the designs and hide them in different places modern day pirate treasure for kids .

They’re expecting a rush as they’ve enlisted the perfect and always reliable queue-it system. Any last minute guesses on mintage?

"Colin Bellamy of Coin Hunter couldn't say how much the dinosaur coins could be worth, but reckons the coloured brilliant uncirculated coin will be worth the most.

He told The Sun: "The coin will be the first from The Royal Mint to be made available as Brilliant Uncirculated colour.

"This base metal colour coin is much more affordable at £20 and the 50,000 limit could well sell out.

"This is the coin that could well increase in value, especially as it is the first coin in a set of three."

Are there that many 50p collectors?
