I say not if you visit Trading View pull up the Gold futures or CFD prices and even though very little volume (due US markets closed today) still small price fluctuations and not see the flat line. Click on full featured chart and set time frame to 15 minutes.

Fiat paper still matters until loss confidence reserve currency that could be a decade away. Shame my employer does not pay fix amount every month in Gold and Silver would kept up with inflation without 2% pay rises year on year. Paid in paper, speculate in paper, accumulate paper but always put your long term savings into physical IMHO.
