Still waiting for an answer to my question....

VERY (intensifier) used with nouns preceded by a definite article or possessive determiner, in order to give emphasis to the significance, appropriateness or relevance of a noun in a particular context, or to give exaggerated intensity to certain nouns.

5. uncommonly great; extreme: kind to a rare degree.
6. exhibiting uncommon excellence; superlatively good or fine: rare skill.
7. highly valued because of its uncommonness: a rare prize.
