5 roubles gold coin 1866

Does anyone have something to say about the valuation of this kind of coin?

Hello 

It s quite an expansive one. It can go from 1000 to 5000 Eur or even more depending on condition. It s a commemorative gold coin from tsar  Alexander II period (that year 1866). 3.9 Million mintage , 91.7% gold - not sure why it is so expansive to be honest )

Maybe someone else knows more. Please do not consider my opinion definitive as I might be wrong

Thank you Toshunya86. I can see there are two 1866 coin versions - one seem to be more valuable. Can you distinguish between the two?

Im also curious why they are so expensive. Wonder if it is a "hype" or more "permanent"-

I will make some research tonight , but can't promise anything.  I am not sure about your type and the difference between the two types . But I believe for such years the price is "permanent" and not a "hype".  There aren't many hypes for coins 100+ years older

If initials on front, H - I = Nikolay Iossa
Those are only recorded initials for 1866

In an old numismatic book I have from the 70s - it looks like this coin has the same value from 1855 to 1881.the mintage is from 2 to 6 millions for each year .

1865 and 1866 have those two différents marks @DoubleEagle talked about.

Based on the pictures provided, the coin you are showing is in uncirculated condition and should command quite a premium.

I am asking on behalf of someone I know, that might be interested in grading it and thereafter selling it. @augur

It is always difficult to judge a coin through cling film: the coin could be anywhere between MS63-64; however there is a strange area in the legend ‘ЗОЛОТНИКЪ’ and maybe the coin should be sent for restoration first (NGC/PCGS) before auctioning it off. For that you should research where there is the best market for roubles, which grading company is preferred for this section of the market and usually the whole process takes half a year and more.

It seems a very nice piece but if the aforementioned area is damaged it could equally be very detrimental to the collector value.
