The royal mint overcharges its customers all the time. You can buy from a third party dealer far cheaper than from the royal mint

 It's like most businesses, they don't want single transactions.

 It makes sense to sell to a dealer in bulk for cheaper rather than stocking storing shipping packing coins for single sales .Faster turnaround for them.

Funny that the article recommends buying bullion sent SD from reputable companies like their advertiser Harrington and Byrne (who aren't a bullion dealer and don't use secure shipping, though they will send you 'other stuff') 🤣
