Stainless molds

Did a search but no results.  Anybody out there have any experience with pouring silver using stainless steel molds? I've been thinking about machining some stainless molds and crucibles to try. Frankly, I'm tired of replacing worn out graphite all the time and, In the long run, could be substantially cheeper. Or, maybe this is a really dumb idea. Any thoughts?

Wouldn't using another metal cause contamination if they are going to be hallmark tested?

We don't Hallmark test here in the states and I think the difference in melting temps should prevent any contamination. But, I could be wrong. That's why I'm asking first. 🤔

You can get graphite powder to coat the SS mould.

Heat the mould and then paint the surfaces with a solution of graphite and water.

 I have a steel Crucible 

 Disadvantages 

 Very heavy when full

 Fits in my kiln nicely when cold 

 Difficult to get out when hot because metal expansion.

 Other than that no issues

Use wood, it gives a wicked texture on the silver....especially if used again after the first time, keep the carbonized wood inside and pour again.
