Special Delivery Heavier Items

I recently sent a boxed set of coins to a buyer. The weight was marginally over 2Kg and I was charged £26+ for special delivery with cover up to £250. This is quite an expense - about 10% of the value. Are there any alternatives - I cannot find a courier who will give this level of cover?

Thanks

I've used the Royal Mail Tracked 24 service as a bit less expensive but depends on the cover you really require.
You can only purchase postage on-line which is a bit of a challenge until you get some experience.

Have a look at Parcel2Go ( there is an APP ) where they select from various couriers like UPS, Hermes and others.

I always have split up packages for SD over 2kg.

2x £11 and you get up to 4kg (2 parcels) for £22 rather than £26.60

If you have over 4kg then SD is up to 10kg for £26.60 with £1 extra for each level of insurance up to £2500 cover for £29.60.

It's the best (insured) way of sending metals as most other couriers will not insure PM's at all

So basically anything a hair over 2kg is a rip off to pay for the full single parcel price.
