Pamp 5g bar, is it genuine or not ?

Hi Fellow forum members,

The 5g bar is suspect at the moment and I would appreciate anybody who has any knowledge or information they can provide regarding this bar.

The main issue so far is the serial number is not presented in a sharp manner but instead in a foggy like appearance.

I recall seeing some Youtube videos about counterfeit carded PAMP gold so you are right to be suspicious unless you know and trust the seller.

5g isn't going to end your world if fake - only damage your pride.

If it was mine I would remove it from its package and make a specific gravity test.
The fake gold bars are always thicker than specified but accurately measuring in the card would be tricky.
Alternatively get a refund if you can and avoid buying similar.

Seller was eBay, 100% feedback.

I think I will follow your advice and remove it from the packaging then do the test on it.

Will be gutted if it is a fake, guess will have to bite the bullet, purchased for just shy of £200.

I would see if someone on the forum has a sigma in the UK and would be willing to test it before removing it. Hard work to sell it out of assay if it was ok.

Good point, will jewellers be able to tell aswell ?

I doubt most jewellers would be able to test without damage.
If you took something like this to HGM they would most probably do an acid test so opening the package.
5g of fine gold is worth £192 selling today to HGM worst case so just post it to them and sleep easy.

@Tn21 you can use my sigma if you are in London and close.😊

And that kind gesture speaks volumes - not just for @vicamy, but for the Silver Forum as a community of decent people with a common interest and a willingness to help each other out.

That it does, I knew someone would be able to help. Its an interesting one though I for one am very interested to see the result.

If it is genuine I wonder what caused it to look so foggy, my working theory is a laser was used and its caused it to be "foggy".

If you take it out, video the packaging in detail prior to removing it, whilst at the same time verbally explaining why you are doing it. That way if it is fake you have video evidence that the packaging was untouched before you did anything. Seller will then be unable to argue you fiddled the packaging.

If it turns out to be gen, well at least it's only the packaging that's screwed.

Just remember to video everything in one take, so prep accordingly beforehand.

Just wondering.I recently bought some 5g-10g bars from HGM. One of the 5 g bars made in Turkey looked is slightly thicker than the 5g pamp bars. Would it really be worth it or even possible to alter these small bars with tungsten?

That guy in the above you tube video is an idiot, or a con man, with that volume of gold he should have had a tester. He could be at it.

I thought I could help @Tn21 but the more I looked through my photos, the more confused I became 😜

It appears that PAMP have produced many issues of the Fortuna with a changing 'reverse'

But your bar has the serial number in a different place!

Which way to turn? 🤔

I guess the Sigma is the best way to check, it's non intrusive.

Cut it out and weigh/measure and SpGr test.

A jeweller will acid test it.

Send it to HGM.

I think it's genuine.

Thank you all for the advice and opinions. Vicamy has kindly offered to test it for me via a sigma machine.

Once that is done I guess we will all know the outcome.

I will update this thread once we have the results.
