Dont buy a goods delivery bar

One good reason not to all rush out and buy a 400oz gold goods delivery bar

" According to the “Good Delivery” specifications for a 400 ounce gold bar traded on the London Metal Exchange, the bar could weigh as little as 350 ounces, or as much as 430 ounces, and still qualify as a 400 ounce bar. "

Imagine ordering 400oz of gold and getting 350, allthough 430 would be nice

 

Could be an awesome "bar clipping" operation, grab the 400oz+ bars and clip up to 80oz off and resell for what you paid.

Is this because "Good Delivery" is not a unit of measure, but a certification process for refiners of gold (and silver)?

True but i think you pay for the weight and fineness as they are all different. I watched an interesting vid the other day about one of the places they keep reserves in the US and they are all individually weighed

says weight can vary and you only pay for exact weight, thats interesting! Come to think about it you never see 400oz stamped on them
