NGC dropped the ball big time.

I sent in a gold 50 peso coin to NGC under express tier with the Mexican special label request. After a week (not the promised 2 days) my coin was marked as shipped but still said "grading and quality control". I couldn't see the grade and there were no pictures uploaded to the database. I got the coin today (no special label just the standard NGC one) and the serial number and bar code come up as invalid by my NGC app. So if I were to try and sell this coin it wouldn't even register as a legitimate NGC graded coin.

Well at least they didn't drop the coin.

This is very alarming for a professional organisation that grades and slabs coins. I’ve done the NGC registry check on your beautiful gold 50 peso coin and you are indeed absolutely right. The search just returns an invalid entry. The only charitable explanation I have is that NGC is still updating its database to include your slabbed coin in its register. Give it a week and if the NGC registry search still returns an invalid entry then you need to address the matter to NGC. I’m reasonably confident NGC can also re-slab your coin at no extra cost with the Mexican special label request if you also address that issue to them.

Maybe worth checking they did not swap the coin to a tungsten filled one while at it... ;)

Lol, that would be hilarious, if all the people holding slabbed coins were actually holding fake c rap. They'd never know, and someone would be getting free gold.

Did yo submit this coin via USA or UK? I suspect via USA as the lead time for Express in the UK is 20 working days not 2.

These mistakes do happen but rarely and when they do NGC always deal with it properly and at no charge to the customer.

Please send this back to NCC on a form marked "Mechanical" free of charge and request that the Mexico label is used and the coin appears in the database correctly

If you are in the UK and you need any help just PM me as I am an NGC Authorised Dealer

Thank you Numistacker. I do live in the US, and have made a monthly tradition of sending coins to Sarasota. The Peso it will definitely be in my next shipment. I am a huge fan of your channel and felt excited that you commented on my post.

The label Mexico Label is only available for modern coins. Since this coin is dated 1947 you won't be able to get the Mexico Label.

The coin will show up in the registry within a few days

1947 isn't considered modern? I had assumed that only applied to Victorian era coins and ancient coins.

@ShaolinStacker seems to be correct because I can’t see any slabbed 1947 gold 50 peso coins on eBay with the Mexican special label. I’m also confident your coin will show up in the registry. It’s only just been recently graded, slabbed and shipped.

But It shipped 7 days ago ans I have it already. It shouldn't be showing up as invalid.

The best advice that I can now give you in this matter is to do what the More help > tab is instructing you to do which is to contact NGC Customer Service.

I called them and there was an error on their end. They managed to get it into the system. That was scary because I currently have about $6k of coins with them being graded now. I was able to get a proof moon landing gold coin from Perth into them this week for the special Apollo label.

An admin error. That’s understandable because of the enormous amount of coins NGC grade, slab and ship everyday. I’m glad everything was sorted out in the end and your beautiful gold 50 peso coin is now in the NGC registry.

Thanks @ShaolinStacker! I’m glad the modern date issue has also been clarified.

They should have some labels for older coins. Why not have a 19th century, early 20th century, and 21st century label? To me it makes sense to not just slap a generic label on all older coins. Anyway fellas thank you for clearing up some questions I had. Cheers.
