Gold-Hoarding "Sultan of Coins" Executed

Recommended Posts

Iran executed a trader dubbed the "Sultan of Coins" and his accomplice for allegedly hoarding gold coins and attempting to manipulate prices at a time when the country’s economy is reeling from re-imposed US sanctions following US President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from a nuclear deal. The Bahar Azadi coin is a gold bullion coin minted by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Demand for gold coins and US dollars in Iran has soared as the country's currency has declined in value. Vahid Mazloomin and accomplice Mohammad Esmail Ghasemi were both executed after being convicted of "corruption on earth" -- Iran's most serious capital offence -- for "forming and running a network for disrupting the economy", said the judiciary's news agency Mizan online.
