When u win the lottery you can request the banker who come with the Camelot to bring u some cash to waste max is around 100k cash , “ cash on the day “

you will have it all in your bank account in 3 days not instantly because majority of people  need a special account and can’t wait 3 days to spend big

she said they haven’t strike them yet until after bank holiday so dispatch will be mid to late June , expect delivery will be around third week of June . And that info is from account manager.

So, this is something else that makes this coin special - a strike on the day which is not struck on the right day!

To be honest I think you all have got a bit over excited.  IMO when the dust has settle the ones who have not sold will not make any money from this coin

An attractive, guaranteed unique coin which is wildly and historically collected, with a mintage much smaller than the collector base, with an issue price less than half what collectors are willing to pay for modern equivalents

Its pretty much the perfect recipe for the success of a coin?

even @sovereignsteve was interested in one, what better litmus test

what leads you to feel negative about its long term success?

the only problem I can see for it is if they start releasing a new SOTD every month and just make them seem a tacky, gimmick extension of the proper yearly release, which I concede is a possibility

as you can tell I feel very bullish about it :D

(For some reason sovereignsteve would not delete sorry mate)

Every sovereign is unique it has a different year on it!  Anyway IMO this is just gauging from the mint, I maybe wrong but at @ £425 -500:I think that's it's money moving forward compare with other sovereigns maybe at bit lower.  There are just to many coins coming out of the mint these days. By the time you have bought the bullion the proof the UNC the 1/4 the 1/2 the full the double the othe double some years the small set the short set the long set the piedfort sovereign, not even sure I have covered them on and then there is the Britannia collection and also not forgetting the yearly proof sets IN gold, silver, etc etc etc .

What next a Sovereign for the next Prime Minister, next year 110 years since the death of King Edward VII.

you don't need to buy all of them u only need to cherry pick what is the best and u are interested into , and I don't think many people collect everything from royal mint , the kg gold coin is pretty rare u know that ?

I agree, that's why I believe most will leave the strike on the day out of their collection.

Clearly, most Sovereign collectors will have little choice but to leave this Victoria Celebration Sovereign out of their collection- there’s not enough to go around with such a limited mintage.

My budget is limited and I have to consider carefully my investments, and I came to the conclusion that this particular SOTD issue was well worth the gamble in the short and longer term- it’s encouraging to see they are being sold at huge premiums even before they have being shipped out. In the long term, we’ll see.

In the unlikely event If these do end up in the secondary market in the mid term, at release price or less, I will be hoovering as many of them up as my budget would allow.

I took a conscious decision not to buy the Matt SOTD “VR” mint mark with plain rim sovereign even though I knew about it three weeks in advance.

I bought the standard Matt sovereign in Spring and I was very pleased with it (even though the packaging was a bit tacky – i.e. no nice wooden box).  But if I have been given a choice (i.e. knew in advance) about the standard Matt sovereign and this SOTD sovereign, I would probably have just bought the SOTD coin (even though the advertised issue price was £500 compared to that of the standard Matt sovereign of about £365).  But what is frustrating is that the Royal Mint does not produce a full list of its forthcoming coins so that interested parties can take informed decisions as to what to buy.

Now, if you are a flipper, I guess your hope is to have your money tied up in a coin only for a short time before you sell it on with a mark up.  If this is the case then you are probably quite happy for the Royal Mint to issue lots of varieties of coins as this gives you more chances of making money.  However, if you are collector you have to think very carefully about buying a coin because your money could be tied up in it for decades ahead.  As a collector, once you realise that your collection can never be fully complete (unless you set your collecting parameters very narrowly) then the desire to have every variety evaporates and you can concentrate on buying just what you like.

We are told that this SOTD sovereign is a £1,000+ coin, but for this amount of money you could buy four bullion sovereigns or three older proof sovereigns or three decent condition Victorian sovereigns.  Most collectors have gaps in their collections, so what do you do, fill three older gaps and create one new one, or just fill the new gap created by the Royal Mint?

This SOTD sovereign has also been interesting in that I have learnt about VIP buyers at the Royal Mint who are able to buy coins at a substantial discount (and presumably have priority access to new coins?).  This, plus the Royal Mint’s unwillingness to set out a clear schedule for its new issues, has certainly dampened my interest in these specialised low mintage coins.

could you please tell us how have you learned of this? I have not seen this discount aspect stated on this forum, just priority allocation for VIP s

Just to clarify my opinions of this coin:

It is matte BU and the 2019 ordinary matte BU has not been selling well. This suggests to me this format will not be pursued long term by the Mint. Therefore it's uniqueness is unlikely to be diluted

It is also different in that it has Victoria's whatever personal cipher/privy mark and plain edge

It commemorates a very important birthday in the nation's history and especially the numismatic history of the UK

All other commemorative anniversary or royal-let's birthday sovereigns are naff imo and pale into insignificance compared to this one. Just to clarify; I mean those that are released in addition to the standard proof/BU sovereign of that year

but the real clincher is the unprecedented ultra low mintage of 650 which should mean it is always in demand from collectors worldwide

In the "2019 Matt Finish Sovereign" thread (on Friday morning) two people reported buying the SOTD sovereign for £416.  Also we know that dealers are able to offer coins below the Royal Mint's issue price, so they must get them at a discount for this to happen.

these buyers were from overseas and not vips unless i'm mistaken. this price is £500 minus 20% so is likely to be the vat element not charged. it is unclear whether this has been done in error as previous RM overseas have been charged at full cost.

@Oldun may be able to clarify

no change so far. Will let you know when it comes to paying. Certainly not a vip btw. Got lucky by being online and in the right place bang on the 7am start and took 30 seconds to order and punch in details. Whatever were not snaffled by VIPs in advance of the start were sold out within 2 minutes !

On the other hand, collecting just the SOTD releases makes a nice and reasonably affordable mini-theme for a sovereign collection. Collecting Sovereigns has become really too big for anything complete, the cost would be well beyond 99% of collectors so creating themes and sub-collections could be the way to go.

Special Years (1989, 2002, 2005, 2012, 2016, 2017)

Older Proofs < 1953

Modern Proofs > 1970

Strike on the Day Sovereigns

Genuine BU Sovereigns (really difficult to find)

Shield Sovereigns

Melbourne or other Branch Mint Shield Sovereigns

Half-Sovereign Type Collection from 1817

There are lots more too. Personally I can see that if RM do not go insane with SOTD varieties these will make a good theme collection and prices are likely to generally hold up better than non-special year regular proofs.

Almost done with the special years. I'm currently doing the SOTD ones, some are hard to find (early years).

I like the SOTD sovs... they are not for everyone, but i think they are pretty cool.
