Newbie Question on silver weight and stacking

More than likely my stack will be mostly Gold. Having said that....I want to add silver to the mix in the hopes that the boxes I create for the grand kids will offer maximum downstream growth. I am not a coin collector. I have looked at rounds and bars and my head swims with the number of offerings.   My idea is to go big and get the largest bars I can afford..at the lowest premium.  The other side of me worries that if the economy fails..the Grand kids won't be able to convert the larger stack.  My question probably is not new..but what rounds and size of bars is a good mix for weight vs volume vs best possible gain ????

Thank you both !  I will add that to my spreadsheet

...Best Regards

I see you are based in the US - I would focus on ASEs rather than Brits - you usually retain the premium if you sell, even to Local coin stores. Also look for Spot deals.

A number of US dealers do first time buyer deals at spot, including SilverGoldBull. Have a look at this too https://www.reddit.com/r/Silverbugs/wiki/index

Illinois?  Ha, I grew up in Chicago. Since your in the states I would reccomend 10oz. and 100oz. bars. They are easy to liquidate and easy to stack. The premium bars like Johnson Matthey and Engalhard are selling for the same price as the others and may get you better resale value.

Find some 10oz. bars as well that you like and go with those. SD Bullion, and JM Bullion usually have the best prices. Take a look at Golden State Mint, Scottsdale mint, Apmex, Monarch precious metals and Golden eagle coins as well. Shop around to find the best prices and buy on the dips. Sign up for email alerts on all of those sites so you know when they are having sales. Most places have new deals every Monday morning. If you want coins you cant go wrong with American silver eagles. Generic rounds are usually over priced at point of sale and wont return well when selling, I avoid those. You mentioned making boxes for the hoard, I would line it with Pacific silver cloth to prevent milk spotting and tarnish. Silver gets heavy real fast and after a certain point storage becomes an issue. https://silverguard.com/pages/pacific-silvercloth-faqs
