Advice buying a monster box

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am considering to purchase a 500 oz Silver Britannias Monster Box. What is the best/easiest/most cost effective way of going about this? I live in the UK and would like to take delivery rather having it somewhere in a vault. I understand there are a few VAT free options as well - is this correct?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Joe

Thank you @BackyardBullion

That's a new website for me. Quite reasonable premiums compared to some of the well known UK based companies.

Another one I found recently is Goldcore (based in Ireland I believe) - any experience with these guys? Seems like potentially a good deal...

I make it still cheaper to get delivery from EU Mint

I'm sorry, I ended up selecting £ and that showed a much higher amount for some reason!

So this company is entirely legit? And having VAT free silver send to the UK does not cause any issues??

All legit, we do the group orders with them and since January we (the silver forum) have spent over £100,000 with them!

That's pretty amazing!

Are you planning to make any group orders soon or are you awaiting potential Brexit implications?

Well, if you are going to order a monster box then its probably better if you order directly.

No more group orders for the next few weeks minimum until we know what Brexit is doing!

Be aware that monster boxes are sometimes priced differently to 500 "individual" quantity coins, I got caught out by that a while ago and paid more for the monster box as a single unit. If you order 500 "individual" coins you will probably just be sent a monster box rather than lots of individual tubes, but if it is important for you to have the plastic box (which is excellent for storing the coins), you could always check with the dealer exactly what will be sent to you if you order 500. Compare, compare, compare to get the best deal!

IMHO buying a monster box of silver is boring. Take a look at Today I received pages I have not seen anyone post saying look I have bought 500 oz of the same Britannia/Maples/Eagles/Philharmonic silver coins.

Have a look at what other silver forum members posted in their Full Stack photos.

@WhiteMountainJoe intend to stack/invest in Silver via just a Monster Box then your interest can soon subside. Variety is the spice of life. I do buy Britannias but just full tube of 25 coins per year.

I can recommend the European Mint for monsters boxes as well. The only thing to be aware of, you don't hear much for a few days and then the delivery happens quite soon and you have to be at home all day, which can be difficult with little notice. Less than a week, it took. And if you order more than one monster box, they might split it into two deliveries, the second one taking a few additional days (and you have to be home again).

Does a monster box have a collectible value by itself?

Is one supposed to check the content of the box or leave it intact for the sake of resale?

No, it's just a pile of bullion in a plastic box. Such a box is handy, that's it.

I have not opened mine yet but I will definitely check it. I wouldn't exclude the possibility that it could be a bit easier to sell if unopened with some buyers but all in all it shouldn't make much of a difference. Certainly not in terms of the price, if so then rather in terms of someone buying from you or someone else. But as said, all in all I think it's nearly as saleable as if it was unopened. I have seen a video of a well established German dealer (Heubach) where they recommend, if you buy one from a dealer for the first time, you should check it, only if you buy monsters boxes from the same dealer again and again and trust them, then you should leave it as it is.

@SouthCoastInvestor Thanks for the tip. Will definitely check that before making a purchase.

@Abyss I get what your saying and seeing all those amazing collections is definitely very exciting. I have a small collection of bullion and various coins I have accumulated over the last 15 years but now I am purely looking at a bulk purchase.

@silenceissilver Thanks for the heads up!
