How are the tombstone silver nuggets made?

Hey everyone, I've had a 5oz tombstone nugget for a few months now and just got it out to have a little look and feel of it and wondered how these are made in regards to the frosted edge of them, the way it seems like it's just been broken off a bigger bar. The bottom edge of mine is pretty smooth compared to the rest of the edge and seems like it was the edge of one bigger than mine, so if they are broken off somehow do they just chip away to reach 5oz?

Unfortunately I can't answer your question but wanted to post just to say how much I love the looks of the Tombstone silver. I don't yet have one and really should seek to amend that - perhaps on my next trip to Canada. I'd certainly be interested to read any insights other members might be able to provide about them and how they are made.

The only way I can think they are cast is in a two part mould. The smooth section is probably where the sprue has been cut off.

Aah OK, still a bit confused as do not know much about casting but thanks, and yes it is a lovely bar but just wish I got a bigger one, not the smallest hahaa

Before I retired I was an engineer in an automated foundry and as such I had to learn about casting methods.

I think each one is unique so my guess is that it's a hammered finish.

It would be interesting to find out just how they cast the “nuggets”. Hammering each nugget isn’t cost effective to my mind.

What would be interesting is to see two bars side by side and compare the finish. Cast they would be almost identical, hammered there will be differences.
