Christofle silverplate dish? Where they use this for?

Hello All,

 

I bought this silver plated dish from Christofle with a pigeon on it.

its 12 cm diameter 1 cm high. there is a 0.5cm relief with a bird in the middle, 5.5 cm diameter

The dish is marked Cristofle 1934-1983 thanks a lot

Does someone know the use of this?

This is a pair of what are described as ashtrays from the same maker. These pieces are pretty small. They have the raised area in the middle with a raised pattern of the bird. This would make them less serviceable for carrying stuff on - like a bottle or a glass. So i think an ashtray is a reasonable proposal for the intended use.

I'd go with the general term 'Trinket Holder' as there doesn't seem to be a rest for a cigarette .   - But some people might class a cigarette as a trinket.

I looked it up for ashtray's and found a simular example with Napoleon, in the middle.
