I guess it would depend on the mintage.  This sold out latest release exemplified the huge demand and people paying well over three times the release price. There’s a huge amount of people who collect 50p’s out there.

There certainly is, and people will pay above face value for some of the on circulation versions. Jemima puddleduck and Newton 50ps are the pricy ones, apart from Kew.

The thing is, it was the circulation Kew that was the rarity and not the proof. People are buying for the Kew alone in my opinion. I’m sometimes scratch my head at the hype

Yep, i wonder about this too. But i guess the Kew design with all the different versions is still a low total amount of coins compared to others. Its the only reason i can think why the BUNC and proofs sell for so much?

That's exactly why I flipped them instead of keeping them 😂 doubt they will increase much from the eBay prices..

And that's exactly what you should do, holding onto a forever memory of a hyped coin will result in it eventually faltering after a while as people move onto the next hyped coin hoping to make a dollar or 5, those who buy at the top will be left holding the baby while others are using their profit to increase their stacks.....

Thats why i continually say, don't get sucked into the hype, there's only so many sets available and only so many people can buy, eventually these things wear off because of the stupid prices which eBay sellers and dealers think they are worth, at the end of the day, it's either 1oz of silver or 1oz of gold and what you will have paid for that will probably get you 3 or 5 Ozs of bullion.........Its crazy how some people react to youtube and TSF hype machine

Yep I've learnt the hard way...all my coins I've been stacking have decreased in value since 2012 😪 should have sold at the peak.

You should buy what you like and think of it as a long term investment, paying way over the odds is only going to make the seller a winner and you the loser, remember the release prices and ask yourself how much silver or gold content is actually in what you’re buying.

Remember the Rwanda coins, 100 mintage for the rooster, dealers wanted a bigger piece of the 2nd offering pie and now they are still sitting on their websites unable to sell them because of the greed, now look at the gold set, silly prices, virtually double the release at one dealers website, try selling it to them at their price and they’ll just laugh at you.

But the 2009 circulation Kew is not a rare coin:

210,000 went into circulation

128,364 were in BU packs,

34,438 were in proof sets,

and this ignores the silver and gold versions.

The difficult thing is telling it apart from the "copies".

I think that people just see the word Kew and think it is rare.

The 2019 issue is far rarer than the original 2009 issue.

A circulation coin wouldn’t go into a proof set, only proofs go in proof sets, that’s why one is called proof and the other circulation, circulation goes into the population of what we use in everyday life. There’s also a difference between BU, circulation and proof

Wouldn't this new set lower the value of the circulation kew gardens,As there's kinda more out there now in a way.Can see people breaking up the set to grade the more sort after coins in it.

then the rest all selling for £20 in afew months :P

I wouldn’t have thought so. It’s seen as a sort of ‘classic’ collectable. Same ways cars become classics even if they make newer versions.

Currently building my silver stack so looking for Kooks, Koalas, Eagles & Pandas

Outside of silver I also run a technology YouTube channel http://youtube.com/thenorthernblogger

You are not alone, I missed it too! We are tracking prices now to see if they drop enough to be tempted. Picked up the original 2009 Executive Proof Set on eBay yesterday for less than the new one so there are still opportunities, you just need to track prices and be patient. This stuff gets adddictive!

Or you have no idea something is coming out,or they give release dates of anywhere between now and march. So you have to be lucky or sit at the pc for 3 months 😂I think a more staggered release on some items would work better.

The first thing they should do is make it 1 per household, to stop people buying multiples just for eBay resale.

Seems they do releases on Monday’s so you only need to check Sundays and stay up all night!

The Royal Mint keep using The Gruffalo pop ups on their site the past couple days so I guess that one is coming soon. 1st March?

I get it would rely upon the mintage. This sold out most recent discharge exemplified the gigantic interest and individuals paying great more than multiple times the discharge cost. There's a colossal measure of individuals who gather 50p's out there.Brazzers Youporn Xhamster

I'm not that bothered by it,But i bet most people buying them a day later on ebay for £300/£400 are collectors that just couldn't get them.

Due to how these things are released,I think you are right on the release times etc.Remember seeing the snowman at like 3am lol :P But that was only due to someone on here posting about it late at night.

It would be useful if Royal Mint produced a list of issue dates - then we would know what to expect.  Does anyone know when the second set of 5 fifty pences is due out?

The Royal Mint web site does seem to announce issues early on Monday mornings just after midnight - but with this issue they were not taking orders until 9am when a lot of people would be at work!

Even when something has been issued, the Royal Mint web site is not that user friendly - you may not be able to access it, or if you are able to, there is a queue, and then at the end, the transaction may or may not go through.  This is frustrating.
