I love it that the album cover for Katy Lied has the picture of a Katydid (to stress the point that Katy did lie). LOL (only Steely Dan with their convoluted thinking could come up with that).

Yes, love their sense of humour. They take jazz and a bit of blues (and on pretzel logic Country) and give it catchy funk, almost pop, hooks but with complex arrangements and obscure and dark lyrics.

Have you seen the documentary on YouTube about their production of Aja? It's very insightful and also has a few words from Ian Dury on it, which I wasn't expecting!

In the night you hide from the mad man you're longing to be.

But it all comes out on the inside, eventually

One Day Like This
Drinking in the morning sun
Blinking in the morning sun
Shaking off the heavy one
Heavy like a loaded gun
What made me behave that way?
Using words I never say
I can only think it must be love
Oh, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

She unscrews the top from her new whiskey bottle
Shuffles about in her candle lit hovel
Like some kind of witch with blue fingers and mittens
She smells like a cat and the neighbours she sickens
Black and white TV has long seen a picture
The cross on the wall is a permanent fixture
The postman delivers the final reminders
She sells off her silver and poodles in china

Squeeze: Labelled with love
