Taking bars out of sealed packaging?

Hey, new to the forum. Just curious to know if taking silver bars out of their mint packaging hurts their value very much? I have a bunch of ram 10 oz bars and generics and would prefer to bareback them well because it feels better.

If you intend to sell the bars in the future don't take them out of their packaging.

Its a fair question, the value as bullion will always be that, regardless of if you keep it in its packaging or not.  I had a couple of RMC bars and I opened one to handle and put my grubby mitts on and kept the other sealed.  It turns out RMC went into bankruptcy so they wont make these bars any more meaning the sealed packaging may now have value for collectors of old bars (Need to wait some years first)

Anyway basically what I did was open one to handle and keep the others sealed.

When buying bars to flip I leave in Mint packages. When keeping for myself I unwrap and place in air-tite capsules*

*honestly, I play with my bars like lego 🤩

Thanks for the advice guys, I plan on keeping all my silver a long time and testing it does really give me piece of mind. The biggest downside I see to the plastic is you can't accurately weigh the bar.

How do you intend to test them?

The reason i ask when the OP said he could not [accurately] weigh the bars whilst still in the manufacturers' packaging.

So i wondered how he was going to test the bars.

Silver bars are easier to test than gold - a reason i don't have gold bars. A gold plated tungsten bar has a specific gravity very near that of pure gold. i suppose an alloy could be concocted for silver but at current prices it is probably not worth the effort.
