It does say 'Recipient Only Signature Required'.

Yodel failed to get that.

Yodel could argue because residential address and family member took receipt then it is a good as the recipient. We all hope get your money back Chris.

@ChrisF very sad situation.

My advice to you when communicating with GS.be is to be very non confrontational. Explain the situation as best you can and hopefully you can get somewhere.

But, the sad fact of the situation is that GS.be might just turn around and say that there is nothing they can do because it was signed for.

I am not criticising you @ChrisF because this seems to be an unfortunate confluence of events not in your favour - but it is SO important for anyone looking to order from GS.be to follow their guidance TO THE LETTER.

If you cannot be there to accept delivery then delay or don't order. Photograph everything immediately, timestamps on photos can be important, especially when it has been signed for which will leave a timestamp on the delivery. If you take photos immediately there is no way they can say you tampered with it yourself in less than 2 minutes.

Video the unboxing too, even if the tape appears intact, that way if GS.be have forgotten something there is proof.

I wish you all the best with this @ChrisF and please do keep us updated with how you get on.

It could be worth contacting any local Cash Converter/Pawn Shops to be on the alert for the items you bought.

They probably aren't the sort of thing people see every day even in those sort of shops.

A VERY GOOD IDEA  Helping Hands.

I would immediately send a short email to HGM Bairds Atkinsons, Chards and Bullion by post with an itinerary of what has been stolen and ask them to be aware if that is offered for sale to them.  I would also look up as HH says your local "cash converters" and pawn shops.  Would be the best way to spend this evening finding a list of them to call tomorrow and alert.  If you notify the police then they should give you a case number which you can quote to the pawn shops so they know officially to alert the police if they receive a consignment that matches.  Hopefully Yodel come through.  It may of course have been stolen where it arrived into the UK or at the local depot.  Possibly worth finding out those locations and calling any pawn shops local to them.

So some good news, I got a message back form (the company) to say they tracked the theft to a London airport and the parcel should have been rejected from being processed any further. I need to fill in an insurance declaration. Im hoping they will resend my order once processed.

That...is probably the best news you could have got. If it was tampered with after this stage it would have been tough to get yodel to sort it!!!

But, as it is at the stage they mentioned I think you have a pretty good chance of getting a resolution on this.

How was GS.be's response from a customer service perspective?

Thay have been fine.  The original email was a but short and terse but they seem to have tracked the problem down within 2 hours and sent me an insurance form.  I cant fault them to be honest.  At worst I should get my cash back at best I hope they will resend my order.

I don't think ordinary mail with Yodel even gets weighed.  The weight will have been logged at time of shipping with BPost.  Beyond that I very much doubt it.  Special delivery in the UK with Royal mail is a different story but that is specifically for valuables and urgent mail.  The last time I ordered from gs.be the fine print for Yodel did not actually allow bullion to be shipped.  I haven't used them for a while so not sure if that's changed but I doubt it.  Writing medical supplies on the parcel is not cool in my opinion which is one of a few reasons I stopped using GS.  Really hope you get this resolved with them.

Medical supplies???  Why am I not surprised.  Is there no end to their unethical practices?

Wow i am almost crying for you. i know how bad this thing is and the relief you will be feeling at the moment.

i had slight crossed swords with them about their use of Yodel which has a very bad press on this forum. GS said b/c of the size of the order they said they would be using FedEx or UPS But they denied there were problems with Yodel. i said go to the silver forum and see how many people are concerned - they said they weren't allowed - which is of course a lie.

Having said all that - Well done Goldsilver.be.

Thanks @sixgun, you are correct I would be devastated if Id lost this.  It is a significant chunk of my PM budget for the year gone in one fell swoop.  Kind words sir, much appreciated.

Ive ordered from (the company) about 4 times now and its always been with Yodel.  The last time I had an order which they tried to deliver and I was at work.  I asked Yodel to hold it and I would pick it up the next day.  I go to pick it up and the driver had decided she knew better and tried to redeliver because it had a medical sticker on it.  I said OK, I'll pick it up again the day after.  I went down to pick it up and they said she had forgotten to take it off the van so Id have to wait another day.  I kicked off and she had to end up hand delivering it as 9 pm after she got a kicking off her boss.

Phew,  let's hope you can get this sorted..

What is the idea of them putting medical supplies on a package?

This, as proven here does not deter a thief .

I think they use this in the belief people would be less likely to interfere with medical supplies, treat with more care and attention.  They dont account for Yodel (who Bpost hand over to) and the complete lack of care that company and employees have.

Now what i'm concerned about is someone in the logistics chain knows whats in those boxes, and that Medical Supplies label is a bit of flag for anyone in the know.  Some polite emails to suggest the practice is no longer be advisable may be a good idea?

I have no idea, maybe to force them to treat it with care without putting fragile on something that could be very heavy? You would have thought having medical on it would have every crack head in the postal service and airport rooting through it.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought about it.  I think that rather than disguising the contents it just draws attention to the parcel.  Best left as a plain box.  Ordering heavy car parts come in a heavily taped plain cardboard box and that's the best way they should send it.  Plain and simple.

I'm so glad about the good news, or at least the good outcome from bad news.

Makes me think twice about putting in a big order now - not specifically with GS.be but with anyone as we are so reliant on trust at every step of the process. Perhaps if I do I'll do several smaller orders just to be on the safe side, even if that means extra postage costs.

I'm really pleased rhat it looks like it'll work out for you, and I agree totally on yodel. Never had anything but sub-par experiences with them. Once, when I lived in a flat, had a parcel (not PMs) thrown onto my first floor balcony!

Don't think it matters to much,I've had two expensive packages go bye bye as soon as it hit a london airport.
