BrewDog Shares?

Recommended Posts

So, I just put some money into Brew Dog (the craft beer company). It's probably not the greatest investment in the world (they don;t issue dividends, instead re-investing profits) and it's not a public company so getting my money out will be less straightforward than public shares, but I figured it's worth it for a bit of a punt/portfolio diversification?

Anyone else here put money into them?

Admittedly the fact that they offer discounts to shareholders also influenced me, although by my calculations I need to buy about £1,500 worth of beer to make my money back...

Anyhoo, if anyone else fancies giving it a try, their current funding round is open for another few weeks. Feel free to drop me a line if you want a referral code 🙂

My friend at work has loads of shares in BD but he's had them for years and years and bought them when they were way lower, he will make some money from them I guess.

They were innovative and refreshing in the first round of share sale, and expect those invested would be able to sell at a considerable premium as the company has grown.  Unfortunately i did not have spare money at the time.  Last round i looked at it seemed to me they were raising cash for unnecessary expansion, as a company awash with cash, and passed.

How do you even buy shares in them? Is there a direct investment route? I'd love to support them, they are big and will only get bigger I think.

(Also a safe investment during recessions. The two things people dont go without during recessions is booze and chocolate)

I'm looking at putting more of my funds into either PMs or non-UK assets ahead of March. This is a bit of an exception because, well, as you say the safest bets are probably beer, porn and tobacco 😆

£47.50 minimum investment and a 5% discount! Pays back with £1000 of beer bought, I’ll be quids I’m in less than a year (Did I mention I stack beer???)

if there’s a benefit to someone by sending me a referral happy to do that if not I’ll go direct

Great if you want 5% or 10% off their beers on a night out but not really setting anything alight for a proper investment. Maybe 2 shares that’d be it for me.

I think those that invested early on in Brewdog will be quids in not to say that its too late now. I read a book by James Watt titled 'Business for Punks' really interesting how the two entrepreneurs made the business and grew the business unconventionally. Its a simple and easy to read book and gives great insight on the business. (if anyone wants to borrow the book -sure thing).

Well not necessarily, if you making a return on that £1000 great stuff.

What's the opportunity cost/ i.e could you have invested the £1k elsewhere.

That's a difficult question to answer. Is the company likely to go belly-up and disappear anytime soon? Probably not. Are these highly liquid shares that you can easily turn back into cash? Not so much (not a publicly traded company yet). So long as you weren't hoping for a quick profit or need that money for something else then I wouldn't really call it a mistake ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

With the price of a 4 pack of brewdog cans (and small 330ml cans) you should be able to drink that in a night. And then drive to the supermarket for more lol.

They do seem to be doing well. Good luck.

I invested this year in brewdog this year as well as gifted some shares to my brother, I think its a company that will continue to grow for a while, considering their recent expansion into china (this year was it?). If you have a look at how well they treat their staff (on paper) its a refreshing site to see in my view,  plus the charity work they do, a lot of other employers should be taking note. That in itself deserves a bit of funding and if we can all make a bit of money out of something like that, or least try to, then what's wrong with that?
