I'm rich! Maybe not...

Something a little different now...

Since the "Strong" Venezuelan bolivar has been replaced with the "Sovereign" bolivar on 20th August, the old bolivar notes are now been removed from circulation, and in many cases are being thrown in the bin/burnt/generally destroyed.

The situation in Venezuela is absolutely awful and is a prime example of the worthlessness of fiat currency. I don't usually collect notes, but as soon as they announced these were no longer in circulation I decided to buy the entire note set, all the way from 2 BLVs up to 100,000 BLV. The first note to arrive was, by chance, the 100 grand note. Should make for a nice little collection and may even appreciate in collectors value one day, much as the 100 trillion dollar Zimbabwe note has. And the whole set only set me back £20. Face value is about $0.03 though...a great reminder of why some of us buy gold and silver.

I've also got a Zimbabwe note.  I sometimes think our PMs obsession will make our grandchildren rich.  Imagine if our ancestors did what we do.

I believe most if our ancestors did have a bit if gold and silver but that's what put food on the table then so we can be here now 😁

I suspect, if they didn't have 11 children in each family, didn't drink, smoke or gamble, perhaps they would have more disposable income.  That's my ancestors!

Imagine gold or silver being at a price where are ancestors could actually afford to horde it

A silver sixpence a week, for forty years... nice horde.

I guess but how much of that sixpence would be left after paying for everything for the week, a far larger family than a modern one, starvation endless funerals poverty in any case I found no horde in my attic 🙄

The average weekly wage in the UK was about £5 in the 1920s - savings of 6d per week isn't too much.

Wow thats amazing. Ive heard that during the Weimar hyperinflation they couldnt find the materials to print money fast enough, so started using anything, including old rags and playing cards.

Thanks @StackerNoob I’ve gone and ordered note 👍

I always regret not picking up a Zimbabwe one, so thanks for the heads up on these- I’ve not purchased for a profit, purely for the fascination, but I’m not prepared to spend £50 on a 100 trillion note like they sell for these days! Thanks again.
