SILVER POURING

Hi there guys,

So I've been dreaming of pouring my own bars as a hobby for several years & today I finally popped my cherry, been looking at @BackyardBullion videos on YouTube & he sure makes it look easy. I guess he’s had a little more practice than me ?. So when BYB mentions you get that nasty slack right at the end of the pour he weren’t sugar coating it...... I need a lot of practice & I hope I get there one day! ?

Here are a few pictures of the bars/rounds I poured today, need some better moulds as mine where purchased years ago & I don’t think there spot on with the surface area etc....

ENJOY & PLEASE DO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK, BYB FANS PLEASE TAKE IT EASY ON ME ? (THE BOTTOM THREE ARE THE RUNT OF THE LITTER)

I guess the moulds need bead blasting?

Nice ripples!

Great first attempts!

Try getting some "P7000" sandpaper and some malt vinegar on those graphite areas and it should clean it up. Leave them in the vinegar overnight and it should loosen the graphite up a bit.

Otherwise they look mighty fine bars! Lovely ripples, what weights are they!?

Thanks buddy means a lot coming from the BYB himself lol, appreciate the info. Will give your tip ago just need to wait for the crucible to cool down ?

I believe all the bars are just over an ounce & have been tested at 99.99 on my sigma tester ?

Hmmm that’s an awesome idea ???

I agree, keep the first pour, it is special

The one in my thumbnail is the first one out of my furnace - not the first ever pour though

I’ve never heard that term before, I’ll have to search it up :)

I thought they were steel moulds. Just to remove rust/cack

Great first try. Keep it up and keep those bottom 3 because you will always be able to remember your first! I hope to see more.

Those three actually where poured after the top lot, was experimenting with weights & had a few miscalculations ?

Mate does borax help? As the silver is pure I’m assuming won’t make much difference as the issue is the graphite crucible.

Borax is to draw out impurities in less than pure silver so it will be useless on 999 silver. And you will end up with a glassy bead on the top of your silver!

Great first attempts mate- something more difficult than some folk (massively including mr @BackyardBullion in this comment!) make it look on the internet!

As others have said nice ripples, and keep us posted on your progress ? I’m even tempted to raid your for sale thread now as the funds may contribute towards your progress ?
