What non-PM coins (if any) are worth stacking?

Recommended Posts

I've just made my first departure from gold and silver coins, and have purchased a few copper Maple rounds from BYB.

what are peoples' thoughts on my choice, and I'd also be interested to hear your thoughts on what other copper coins/rounds I should be considering.....

I think it's always good to have a few different varieties in your stack I too have a few copper rounds and the ones that I have that I like the most are the zombucks copper rounds

The copper rounds are cheap, so you can't go wrong on these. But I do not be leave the will become valuable anytime soon.

I only buy vintage copper coins in TOP quality, MS64 is the minimum grade I buy. These are collector coins, so for most you have to pay way over spot price. If you pick the right coins with a colorful patina, the will  become more valuable then coins without a colorful toning.

I wonder about copper rounds myself. Do they oxidize and turn green? Do people buy copper bars and rounds frequently? I'm so used to assuming people want to buy and sell silver and gold due to inflation or investment. However, I'm not sure how copper fits into that or if it is more an industrial metal that you're betting on creeping up in value. I also, as an aside, can't think of a single modern coin that is made from copper or bronze near the 90% mark. The US nickel is 75% copper and 25% nickel the very common modern "cupro-nickel" coin composition, but I don't know of any that are bronze or entirely copper.

3 months in and my copper rounds from BYB are still looking nice and shiny :)

My feeling is that they are something nice/different to add to my collection of stuff, but as an investment copper is not really practicable as one would need a huge warehouse in which to stack sufficient quantities of the stuff so as to make it viable.
