1887 Double Florin...worth grading?

Hi Guys,

My mate Scotty just got this 1887 Double Florin for £55 at a local antique shop.

He would like the Forum's view on whether to send it in for grading.

All views appreciated.

Likewise, I don't think I would grade it, just keep it and enjoy.  Nice chunky coins and they only did them for four years so easy to get a run.  They were withdrawn after six years because they were too easily confused for crowns. They were called barmaid's ruin as they were often fobbed off as crowns in pubs.

Generally, it costs $35-45 here in the US to grade a single coin (fees and postage both ways).  A 55 pound coin is usually not a candidate for slabbing -- unless there is a counterfeit issue with that particular coin.  Then the slabbing becomes worth the fees.  Thanks from Scotty at CoinFinders

There's a lot of detail there so it may get a good grade.  Personally i think coins should be held, antiques ones moreso, unless preserving pristine specimens.  Have a look on ebay to see if comparable condition is worth the cost of grading, though they usually look cleaner as well as detailed.
