I’m not in the UK, but in general I believe you’d have to pay some percentage (like 1.5%) of the total amount if using a credit card right? Which may be a lot if you’re purchasing expensive items.

The one way to get around this is to use PayPal, because retailers sometimes charge a smaller fee for using PayPal versus a credit card. I don’t know why, but I’ve experienced it.

Anyway, I’m sure someone from UK or Europe will chime in with better advice.

I also have an Amex and try to use it as often as possible. Luckily my supermarket accepts it without extra charges. For other (online) purchases it usually helps to use Paypal if they charge a fee (sometimes a fee is N/A). Haven't managed to put silver or gold on it. Usually bank transfer is the best option, because all dealer charge extra as far as I've seen.

No theirs no extra charges, the government introduced the card surcharge ban in 2018. I'm not sure if it's different from European dealers

Now without sounding like you mother, make sure you pay off that transaction immediately, buying precious metals on credit is a stupid idea.
