They’ll release a Strike on the Day Sovereign for Prince Charles’ 70th Birthday in November. It will be a “variation” on the 2018 Sovereign, in that it will not have the 65 privy.

I Sold 4 PF70 1/4 proof Dragons for $1200 each and 1 $800 on Ebay. Have 2 left that have been sitting for a while at 800$

I assume they were buy it now. I think the PF70 market is more specialized and is one of the reasons we grade modern proofs.

The actual regular competitive market price seems to be the eBay auction market for these coins as they attract 20 to 50 watchers and multiple competitive bids.

I am not saying that these coins can’t fetch large amounts if one waits for a buyer because I have seen they can. But also the buyers at these levels are not flippers they are collectors who have focused on 70 grade coins and know they need to pay a premium.

We don't tend to stock the new SOTD sovs unless the premium is low enough for us to offer a good deal to the customer. We've only had a couple of enquiries about them so we will probably wait until we are offered them on the secondary market.

I should have been more specific, you are absolutely correct in general (just see some of the 'losers' you have to scroll past to get to this coin on the RM site!) and that is wise advice for most commemoratives (a Harry and Meghan proof anyone? ). The silver Beasts I have no idea on. I was mainly thinking of the gold commemorative proofs/BU Sovs from the past year as that's the topic at hand. All of the ones I bought and that have been popular picks on the forum have done well so far graded well and in some cases raw, and well-graded Beast proofs look very promising already. Then we drop to bullion Sovs where last year is a good recent pick over other years and good quality Beasts are excelling.

Perhaps some of last year's specials that I don't have or keep an eye on (e.g. the 5 Sov) haven't done so well? I guess I am just posting from within my own little bubble on here and my own careful selection of RM coins. Apart from Sovs and Beasts the only other major one for me from the RM is Britannias, which are much-overlooked imo (including by myself!).

Back to the topic at hand and I am surprised these haven't sold out yet at only 650 mintage despite the price! I also think that however long it takes there will never, ever be a reason to take a loss on these and ideally will be family heirlooms and worth a good amount to the future generations

Without trying to start a frenzy on this coin.......but;

Strike on the day with plain edge, mintmark to commemorate the anniversary of the longest reigning monarch - this can't be repeated for many generations.

A low edition of 650 makes it a good bet.

However, I'm out because of the many disappointments I had with the 2017 SotD - despite being so enthusiastic about that.  I had to return all my coins to principle and secondary sellers due to quality issues.

I don't know about the two other SotD 2017s but they did a good job with the Pistrucci in my experience. <edit> Just seen @whitesands1 post above

Of course they will still arrive in a jiffy bag at £500 each but if you buy a BUNC 50p for a tenner it will come in a nice sturdy box

There are transition procedures in place which give them latitude so basically I think they'll do what they like

I read the blah, blah, blah, blah initial "bullet points" and they are the same as the 2018 Proof.

The Mint hid the "Plain Edge" at the bottom of the description - silly billy's.

I'm making this my "tip" of 2018, so I bought a couple.

That's what I've been telling the Mint for a year now - make the SotD unique to avoid these issues.

The only problem will arise IF the Mint do another SotD AND use the same design this year - similar to 2017.

We wait and see.

Yes I had to reset my password.  I wonder what happens if they get orders for more than the limit - will it miraculously increase?  Or will the awaiting stock message change to sold out?
