Tarnished Rims - Bullion Coins

Recommended Posts

As a long time silver stacker, one of my biggest annoyances is tarnish that forms around the coin rims. I can even see the tarnish directly through the plastic on some of my sealed tubes.

It seems the oldest are the worst. Almost all of my 2005 -2008 coins have some dark brownish shadows.

What are people thoughts on this? Had anyone tried running their coins through a dipping solution to bring them back to life?

The dipping solution takes off tarnish in seconds,  I know it's just bullion but I hate looking at tarnished silver, just a few seconds in the solution does the job, I also made the mistake of leaving some Britannia silver in the dip too long and it made them worse.

Some people like the naturally tarnished look though so it's a matter of personal taste.

i actually like the tarnish unless it is a valued proof. i got a couple of tubes ASE from another member. My brother took delivery and said there was one that was really bad. He showed me - it was a real collector's dream with natural rainbow tarnishing. It is my prized ASE now.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

Tin foil in a dish.  Some bicarb of soda (cooking soda) on top, with a sprinkle of table salt.  Coin on top, then cover with boiling water.  Bit more bicarb and salt on top.  Give it a minute, then turn over.  Bye Bye tarnish....?
