I picked #1, as if thats what I had spare and could only choose one of the 3 options, that's what I'd do. In reality though, a 5% cash interest account must be hard to find in the UK, if you know better please point me in the right direction!

In reality, I like to keep some emergency fund in a bank account but not as much as 6 months wage, and I rotate small amounts of excess income into gold / silver / other investments, not all into one specific area and stick to it.

What about: hold the money for four months and then buy an ounce gold? An ounce is marginally better bang per buck than a sov (shipping costs not factored in)
