A full refund should cover the postage cost not just for the coin as they offered. It`s their fault, not mine, they should pay for the postage.

I'm not sure what the law is on that

Companies are supposed to refund you the postage when you return something because of the Distance Sellers Act, but I'm not sure if gold would be included because "financial services and goods and services directly linked to a fluctuating price are exempt."

Anywho, if you are that unhappy with the coin id take the £x postage hit and move on.

''If the seller wants to send substitute goods, because it doesn't have the items you wanted in stock, it should say so before you place your order.

The cost of returning any such substitutes should always be at the seller’s expense. ''

Under the Consumer Rights Act all products must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as DESCRIBED.

As described  - The goods supplied must match any description given to you, or any models or samples shown to you at the time of purchase.

"Any returns policy that says I have to cover the cost of returning items must only relate to the situation where I change my mind about the item ordered and not where there is a problem with the item.

I should not lose out financially as a result of your breach of contract and accordingly all costs of returning the item should be met by you."

Yes that's from the distance sellers act, which I don't think gold would be covered under (but not 100% on that.)

The goods must match the description though, otherwise you are correct.

I think the listing for the rooster is incredibly but probably unintentionally misleading. It clearly states Finish = Uncirculated even though that's not really a proper description as has been noted

Chards then say

'If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes, therefore some products may have edge knocks and/or marks.

and then this

These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins. '

Which if you are selling something as UNC is clearly nonsense.

Hope Chards take the criticism on the chin and make their listing a little bit clearer.

clearly states 'investment product'

Sorry mate you should of read term and conditions.

Gold investment products do not come under the distant selling act,   though dealers like to keep a good reputation.

If you are not happy take the refund offered and buy from somewhere else.

If i was you i would go to smiths and buy one of the coin magazines and look for one of the many dealers and go to a coin show check out when the next one is in your area.

We will have a look at all the comments. We try hard to be as transparent as possible and will make adjustments when mistakes are made or confusion occurs. Objective criticism helps companies to improve. We are not trying to be awkward and do want to help, we are open again tomorrow (Tues 2 Jan) if you would like to give me a call or send me a DM and I will call you.  Wishing you all a Happy New Year.

I recently approached Chards to buy some Roosters, and can honestly say the service I received was exceptional.

To ensure I did not get dog chewed coins, I asked for some photographs to be sent of the reverse and obverse and a day or two later I received them.

As a result of receiving the high quality images, I bought 11 roosters in total.

I am by no means qualified to grade the coins (your comments are welcome on this) but would say the vast majority are in very good condition - bearing in mind the price above spot was not huge and I knew I was buying bullion coins.

There are not many dealers that will do this, so hats off to Chards (especially Lizzie) from me.

As a stacker and collector I do understand the difference between bullion and graded. The buzz for the collector has been alluded to in this thread earlier, collectors want to buy coins at spot + not much,  and obtain a coin of MS63 or above..nice if it happens but not really a sustainable business model..

Hmm .... My thoughts exactly as a new stacker and having watched shadowstacker extolling the virtues of having a good relationship with a dealer I decided to pop in.

So on Wednesday morning I phoned Chards to place a order for collection today. I very nice lady told me I couldn't order over the phone but could easily pay on collection. I wanted to lock in the price so at dinnertime I placed an order online with special instruction for collection between 4:30pm - 5:00pm today. Within a few minutes a received a confirmation telephone call with a reminder to bring my passport / driving license and card I paid with all very professional.

This morning I had to start work early so the I could finish early to get there at the appointed time. I was greeted by I nice lady who took my documents off to be copied. On returning I was informed the my order hadn't been taken out of the vault which was now locked as they were closing at 5:00 pm and I should return Monday morning !

Presumably to repeat this process. Through gritted teeth I asked for my order to be delivered, paid the additional delivery cost, asked for the copies of my documents to be destroyed and left.

What should of been the start great relationship was over before it even began.

The coin in hand dealer experience will have to wait til I get to londinium I suppose.

Mistakes happen but Chards my TIME is MONEY had you wasted it.

Congratulations I'm quite I laid back character and you manage to ruffle my feathers, with my first ever negative trip to Blackpool.

Side note : The 2018 silver krug they had on display had a blemish on it, so I'm thinking they all must have ;) and they must also keep their display gold bullion in a different vault.

I placed my first order a couple of days ago. Intended to buy a single half sovereign as the price was slightly lower than gold.Co.Uk, who does free delivery on everything, but the only delivery option was £9 as the coin was over £60. I know the coin isn't a low value item but neither is it part of a big, heavy order. The £9 didn't go anywhere near offsetting the price difference, so in the end I bought a few cheap silver coins and paid £3.50 for delivery.

An update to my previous post: my three coins arrived today. I went for their cheapest brand new silver bullion. Coins were wrapped tightly in bubble wrap whuich was inside a Chards branded plastic self-seal bag. The coins didn't come in capsules or plastic bags but were in good bullion condition, apart from one where it looks like the queen has cut herself shaving. I'm not too worried though given what I paid.
