How Do You Store Your Coins

I might grab some bigger ones too.

What does re activated mean? How does this work? Drop them in a microwave?

Reactivate is too dry them out in the owen, as the silica is yellow when dry and turns green when they are damp.

Do a search on ebay for " silica gel canister" as they can explain it better :)

Interesting stuff.

I'll have a look, thanks Bosse.

Here is my current storage solution......

They are £2.49 from Home Bargains and will hold around 220 coins/bars, still in their air-tight holders.

The little dividers can be removed to allow for larger items.

Hi

I have seen a topic about milk spots and how to stop them!!

Well I don't actually know but what I have tried is this.

I have sealed my mint tube of 25 2014 Maples using my vacuum unit and also added a oxygen scavenger sachet.

I will open it in say 6 months or so and see if any spots have appeared, they where checked and there were a few tiny marks which I removed with a jewelers cloth.

  • 2 months later...

I am changing the way I store my coins.

I have ordered a ASE monster box which is at home now and I am going to buy only tubes of the various base coins i.e. ASE, Britannia's, Crocs etc.

Then I will store them in the monster box, however I need 3 more minimum to store the collection.

.

Easier to transport back and forth form storage etc. They will be labelled and sealed.

I will put the proofs sealed, and carded ones in another ASE monster box or equivalent.

I am going t need a fair amount of coin tubes to convert to the monster boxes!!!

I have received recently some phils and rounds that only come in those little plastic envelopes about 1 inch sq with a seal on the top edge will coins be ok in those or do they really nead capsulating

regards

Those are refereed to as coin flips. Obviously they are not air tight, so capsules would be a better storage solution. But it's completely up to you, you might not want to buy capsules.

I already have an off-site safe, safes are quite difficult.

They are so specific to each purchaser, it'd be hard to cater for the masses.

Most safes are complete rubbish, I had to get mine second hand as the one I wanted was £2k.

I'd be interested to see what types of safe you were thinking of selling, and at what price.

Good question Danny-boy. We are currently trying to find out what sizes and prices would be convenient..trying to get in contact with the safe producers for this as well. There are so many different safety levels and characteristics to the safe, that its going to be a challenge to find THE right one(s).

Have a nice weekend guys!

Also storage of a large amount of safes might be a problem depending on the size of your warehouse.

Might be easier to find a company that specifically sells only safes and get them to drop-ship orders (but with your branded invoices) to customers. See what sells and eventually you could start stocking the popular models yourself for better margin.

Just a thought.

On storage i see Atkinson are selling the pelican cases they are great, seen some used for stacks on you tube looks good.

If you are the big stackers here the pelicans are to small but for us smaller stackers it is a nice choice.,

I will stick to my plastic fishing bucket with the sealed lid, water proof and has saved me from a water leak from the bathroom already, the stack stayed dry.

Just had a nice phone call with someone from a company that produces all kinds of safes. It's amazing, they have all kind of options from a very boring grey standard safe up to the exclusive line, you can have it all customized with colors, drawers, velvet inlay or none, fire resistant or not etc etc - I want one, too! ;) BUT am I right assuming that stackers prefer a good cost-benefit ratio rather than fancy looks, small to medium sized and characteristics that match the minimum standards required by insurances?

Every time I go to a hotel now, I try and bump the digital safe open in the room. I was impressed with my last hotel which actually had a safe with proper motorized bolts and a reasonably thick construction. Shame it was bolted into a wooden wardrobe...

Personally I don't want to have a home safe for my silver. By the time you get serious levels of security you are not only paying a hell of a lot, but the safe becomes difficult to hide, especially when it is delivered in broad daylight and gets wheeled in by two beefy blokes because it weighs about 100kg. Too conspicuous when there are prying eyes about. I am happy enough keeping my stack offsite and a couple of sample coins in caps for when I want to look at something shiny.

I was surprised, having watched that video clip, how easy it is to open one of these safes. No point in having one really.

proably need one that is fairly hefty, old fashioned and key operated maybe?
