Hello

I am trying to collect again the canadian sovereigns which they were minted from 1908 to 1919.

I think its a very interesting period of gold sovereigns so i will start with my first coin i bought today.

1913- C gold sovereign with only 3,715 mintage.

Certified by PCGS 64

Any comments would be great to read.

Nice find!

I have never found a Canadian in MS64. I have a bunch of 1911, 1917, 1918, and 1919 ranging from MS60-63, but have never even seen one graded higher than that! None-the-less one of the rare years! Getting your hands on the 1916...that will be something interesting! Being Canadian, these are my favourite too. :)

Thank you for your comments.

@Steve :P hahaha

I think i was lucky on this one because i paid around 3750 GBP.

Last recorded auction was 5,500$ on heritage.

The thing is that these coins are really difficult to find in open market. Unfortunately in auctions we have to pay fee and currency issues.

So when i find a coin like that from a sovereign collector i try both sides to be happy.

Stunning, I’ve been thinking lately I’d like to work on collecting the George V sovs, my logic being that I should be able to add relatively good grades at relatively low prices. I’ll need to wait a few years for some though, clearly.

To be fair I was at an Auction just over 12 months ago and a bare one went for around that much maybe a bit more, it was in very good condition.

Its an excellent pick up (even though its in a slab! ;) just joking )  Well Done

Good morning everybody.  i didnt want to start a new topic , so i am uploading  my new purchase, a 1910-C gold sovereign MS64 PCGS.

In the last few years, its price(MS64) is getting higher and higher ,with only 28,020 mintage and  only one better in MS66.

This  coin was offered from a friend collector here in Greece ,so i didnt want to let this chance go away.

I wanted to share with you. :)

It seems like it is only every other year that Krause prints Canadian Sovereigns in their catalogs. The one above is from 2015 (42nd edition). Finally got my hands on the 2017 (44th edition) and so these are the most recent numbers in a Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901-2000 until 2019 comes around.

Ok this probably comes across as a stupid question..but how does that table work? Take the 1913C mintage 3715. If you add up all the columns MS63+MS60+etc comes to a lot more than 3715!
Those are prices for the grade of the coin :)

That is one tempting eBay auction! It is way out of my budget for a single coin...but what are the odds of another one being on the market? Hmm...

Meanwhile, PCGS has a pop report of 29 and NGC has 12. Some might be attempted regrades, but that is still above the "about 20 known" so it is possible that more might hit the market...

What do you think it’s worth? CAD $60k?

Hello Steve

i think 1916 in ms condition worth around 20.000 euro.

fair price.

i own 1913-c , 1910-c 1919-c in 64 pcgs and trying to collect them in gem condition.

That’s going to be an awesome collection. I’m sure the Canadian ones should be valued higher based on their rarity, a good investment for the future I think. Maybe one day they will be highly sought after. Getting the 14 and 16 will be tough in any grade especially MS. Good luck.

There is a weekly Canadian coin news magazine, simply called Canadian Coin News, that publishes the current trends for every Canadian coin instead of just the "market value". This is what they are saying about the Canadian Sovereign coins in Canadian dollars. According to the latest, in AU58 it is trending at about $32,000 CAD -- just above 20,000 Euro as @SVcollector said.
