Silver content of £1.08 each bought at spot. Any 100 yen coin from 1957 onwards is still usable and 100 yen is the equivalent of £0.68. Got a few more coming. I think a few Olympic ones only made in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympics.

Fun fact in over 60 years, the only times 100 yen (not silver but the value of 100 yen adjusted for inflation) didn’t decline in value were 1986-1987, 1995-1996, and then the 1999 value of 100 yen effectively strengthened in value all the way to 2017 Astonishing.   https://www.inflationtool.com/japanese-yen/1957-to-present-value

Today I received... an email from the Royal Mint.

"Thank you for your email.

I’m sorry for the confusion caused on the website under the specifications on this product.

I can confirm that this coin is a Copper-Plated Steel Penny.

This has been updated under the specifications to reflect this."

 

So, I had not identified a rare variety!

I paid £250 for it on Ebay, a bit of a premium but not insane considering its a bit of WWII shipwreck history (bars were made from recovered silver from the wreck)

MASSIVE thanks to @Agpanda who very, very kindly sent me a brand new capsule for my Sunshine Mint 1oz bar.....

Agpanda not only responded to my enquiry here on the Forum asking where I could get a suitable size capsule from, he sent me FOUR brand spanking new capsules all the way from Sweden - and he wouldn't even let me pay for them!

They arrived by priority post this morning and fit the bar absolutely perfectly

One of the things that I really love about the Silver Forum is the great sense of community that exists amongst so many of its members, and it's very much a case of "hats off" to Agpanda for his extraordinary kindness and generosity - "Sir! I definitely owe you one!"

Sigh couldn’t resist. The 2019 are from the Harrington offer, the 1/10 proof Brit was a spot buy bargain. 

Might have to get more of the 2019s at that price.

Today my quad metal Britannia arrived from @SilverStan and yesterday 2x Trafalgar Square silver coins arrived from @arshimo2012. Also got a 1902 half sovereign from my local bullion dealer in town.

I'm well impressed with the quad metal coin and although I've slated the London landmark coins before, this design (Trafalgar Square) once in the hand isn't too bad as the detail is better under the light compared to looking at a picture of one.
