The 1837 is indeed gorgeous.

How could a coin that old remain in that condition?

when and what authority?

I always considered you the authority in sovereigns (well the nickname is sort of a giveaway) but that shield is rather lovely ?

Fellow forumite and sovereign lover (I hope), I have never and will never claim any authority concerning sovereigns or anything else for that matter. I like to think I know more than a little about sovereigns and am happy to freely give my opinions whether welcome or not!

It is for others to decide whether my words have any merit or otherwise and act upon them as they see fit. I am always happy to be contradicted and will be the first to admit when I am wrong. At least I think I will but as it hasn't happened yet, I don't really know:P;)

If people on here think others know more than me about soveriegns, that is fine by me and I am happy to learn from them also.

You will certainly not upset or offend me by claiming other people deserve the title of "authority" rather than me.

Just received a fun coin today. Allegedly a two headed silver Morgan peace dollar. I'm curious how these were made, but I'm more concerned that it's really silver. It has coin orientation. Both heads are 1922 but have different levels of wear. I can see a slightly raised edge on one side which suggests a second head was just pressed or melted into a hollowed cavity, but I can't get a scalpel in there. Seems like a smooth seam in fact other than the telltale thickness.

It must be difficult to hollow out one coin so well and to make the other fit exactly into the hollow.

I've seen 2 pence pieces that were done on a lathe but I wouldn't have the patience myself to set a coin up so it would be perfectly balanced to hollow out to fit exactly.

There maybe tell-tale signs on the edge where the jaws of the chuck would have left a mark.

Baldwin's have a1863 sov with Arabic figure 1 over an inverted Arabic 1 giving the impression of a Roman 1 for £650. They had one with the Roman 1 a couple of weeks ago at £1,000. Not sure if the more expensive one relates to it being rarer. I'm sure someone on the forum will know.
