RAM "Seasons Change" Silver Proof Kangaroos 2016-19   When the Royal Australian Mint revealed the first design in this series back in 2016, my first feeling were of an overwhelming apathy towards an extremely "busy" design showing all the artistic acumen of a 'C' grade at art 'A'-level.   Given some of the outstanding designs of earlier members of the "Skippy" collection, it was scarcely fathomable that such an uninspired fettling should have been selected to represent the initial offering in the mint's first ever quartet.   It transpired that the three ensuing artworks of 2017-19 were of an equally thought-provoking calibre and so mind-numbingly tedious that all four are barely distinguishable from one another. The idea of attempting to portray the four seasons through the medium of effectively monochrome two-dimensional silver proved to be an unprecedented miscalculation.   The maximum mintages of each of the four proof roos was set at 5,000 - this number having sold out for the three previous proofs. However, such was the tsunami of demand that the actual mintages ranged from a "high" of 2,802 in 2016 before petering right off to just 1,733 in 2019 - the rarest proof roo by an outback mile.   These numbers are indubitably the only fact of genuine import about this set - leading, as they do, to a currently still under-appreciated rarity factor and subsequent seemingly bizarre high prices.   These roos have yet to even begin to grow on me. and under no circumstances should they be purchased for the purpose of admiring their aesthetic beauty. They have none. Only collectors and speculators should approach these beasts...nothing to see here.

I wasn’t quite sure where to go next after my initial foray into historic sets and to follow on from my purchase of the 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof Set.
Decided on this beautifully preserved 1911 George V Proof Coronation Set- a tiny 952 10 Coin ‘short’ sets were issued.

Once again, thank you to @Elements @Roy & @SilverMike who helped me decide 😀

Silver is not a good long term investment. Look at the charts.
When the price went up 60% this year, I hope everyone got out.

Gilded Silver Kangaroos 2004-2006   The RAM issued official "selectively gold plated" silver 1oz roos for just seven years, from 2003 to 2009. Although I am not a big fan of gilded silver coins, I felt that these seven just about merit a place in a complete collection...although I do draw the line at the felt-tip pen coloured cereal packet tokens.   The actual mintages of all three were quite similar to their proof counterparts,  - this translating into what I consider to be somewhat unjustified high prices outside Australia.   In summary, quite an attractive set but only worthy of purchase by avid agroophiles until prices fall.

This scenario reminded me when I owned an old Alfa Romeo 147- I joined a couple of enthusiast forums and the Official Alfa Romeo site, that ran monthly competitions.
I entered the competitions every month, and one month, the prize was a brand spanking new Alfa 4c- google it, what a machine.
Anyway, a week or two later I received a telephone call.  The lady introduced herself, and excitedly told me I had won a prize in the competition- whilst she broke the news, in my mind I was peeling on a pair of kid leather black drivers gloves, popping an overnight bag into the boot and imagining taking my wife for a weekend away to celebrate, the gravel on the Country Hotel drive was scattering under those wide rims, and the engine purring to a halt...then she announced what I had won...the third prize, spending a day with the British Olympic Team GB Gymnastics Team, an opportunity to meet them and watching them train!

Imagine my disappointment- fat chance of even a hearty boozy lunch in that company- although I accepted the prize gracefully, thinking someone I know might like such a prize- not a taker!
Out of courtesy I rang the lady back and told her I couldn’t attend and perhaps she might be able to find someone who could- oh boy, she went the extra mile to try and find an alternative date that I could attend, and kept calling me back to rearrange- in the end, I blocked her number and came off the Alfa Owners site 😂

Received today from @Shep.  My favourite modern Sovereign, you can never have enough of this coin in your collection 😉  The plain edge is sublime.

A gigantic leap of faith from modern coins in terms of receiving this 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof Set today.

Bought from a local dealer.  Photos a little inconsistent, David Bailey I am not.
Thanks to @Elements, @SilverMike & @Roy for the advice and encouragement.

25th Anniversary 2018 5oz Gilded Silver Kangaroo   This stunning 5 ozzer was released by the Royal Australian Mint as one of three addenda to the Kangaroo series, the other two being the 3oz Roobar and the BU F15 Silver 1oz version of the Summer "Seasons Change" series.   The mintage is generally accepted to be 1,993 but - probably due to the prohibitively high issue price - a mere 1,022 were actually sold. I tracked my quarry down in Oz, from where @CoinStruck once again played a blinder in arranging delivery to the UK.   As many will be aware, heavier silver coins have an attraction all of their own. This one is a true joy and none of the photos come close to doing it justice.

2 x 1oz Gold Krugs, Courtesy of Jimmy2trees   Although an avid collector of manifold silver sets, I view gold as a means of insurance and, therefore, something to be stacked and offered no undue ceremony. As such, I rarely post photos of the yellow stuff - most of my acquisitions are of but meagre interest or beauty.   However, on this occasion I am making an exception because I wish others to know of the outstanding service I received from TSF member @Jimmy2trees.    The two Krugs were offered to me at a superb price and were comfortably the best gold price available by some distance. Jimmy was quick to reply to my DM, polite in his answers and efficient in ensuring all elements of the transaction went smoothly. Dispatch was prompt and Jimmy kept me updated from purchase to delivery.   I am happy to offer a personal endorsement of a valuable TSF member and would recommend him to any future prospective buyer.   That said, the coins are two bullion ozzers and need no further description. I doubt I shall see them again for some time.
