If they changed it back to gold colour it could become crucial for smaller collections to have at least one rose sovereign, in the future. Changing it back to gold colour, would make them more special. That's how you would have to try and convince the Royal Mint - as great as it was to have them (cough) as great it is to get rid of them - just like with guests in your house, after a few days.

I'm wondering how many full and half sovereigns you could get into a normal jar and if they would bother at airports, specially if you blended a few real pennies in.
    ...
It's nice to have a few 24K gold coins so you know how the look but 90% and 22K is much more preferable if you want to keep it interesting and get loads of different coins from the last 2 centuries, many of which you get a rather low premiums.

For 2.5K it hardly pays off to go abroad for buying it I guess but maybe it does somewhat with a 50 Pound Ryan Air flight if you get away with 100 Pounds altogether for the whole trip. I have bought one ounce in a shop in Vienna, where also nobody asked for an ID. I also brought it to the UK in my hand laguage. They will see the metal in the scanner but no one said anything in may case and the limit for bringing it here is 10K as far as I know. However, if you are unlucky, they might want to see it and then it's not anonymous, any longer - if they take notes of it. Till Last year you could have gone to Germany but they have lowered their limit from 10K to only 2K with the turn of the year.

Theoretically, the limit is 5000 Pounds as far as I know but unfortunately, some dealers ask for an ID at any purchase. That's also the case because the limit is not just 5K for one purchase but per year and obviously they could forget you after a few weeks or months, so there is a grey area and they want to cover themselves - also one member here said, they are under pressure from the authorities. Of course it has nothing to to with preventing money laundering (that's done with fake businesses) but with a paranoid state.
I have once bought only 2 Sovereigns at a well known London dealer who wanted to see an ID but also 5 Sovereigns at once and a few more over the same year at an unknown local jeweller. However, his prices were not particularly good.
I think the objection, if you don't have to hide anything, you don't need to worry leaving your ID there is not thought through. I don't do anything abnormal on the toilet too, yet I would not like a record of it stored at a shop or even the government. History - and the present - have shown time and again, you can't trust governments. The reset is coming closer, it's principally unavoidable in a fiat system and the powers that be talk openly about it now (e.g. at the World Economic Forum). Of course many people will lose their savings in this process and the government will grab everything they can. I think a literal gold confiscation is yet unlikely as their are much easier ways to get much bigger amounts, from the people. However, chances are that they will continue to make it more difficult, add more taxes etc, around gold. That is unless their attempts to install socialism backfire, of course.
So, you can only look for more bullion dealers/jewellers till you find one that doesn't require an ID. I have also once bought a Sovereign at a pawn shop, they didn't ask for an ID either, however, their sell (and buy) prices are often (but not always) really bad. But trying them out is most likely a wast of time, chances are really low there. Try small and unknown jewellers and shops that offer antiquities.

Whats worse - these people then recruited to start assisting in jabbing other peopled & go around making complete strangers feel guilty.
Its none of thier business and there is something very sick underfoot going on. I can just feel the undertones of it.

If thats not scary then I dont know what is?

Just suggesting where this made up name might have come from.
As @silenceissilver suggests it doesn't matter at the moment if NSA made it up - if you can make some profit out of it, good luck to you but unless you are 100% certain be sure, it isn't going to take over the world and be sure they didn't do it as an academic exercise and they didn't do for the good of your health.

Finally it doesn't matter if Bitcoin was created by the NSA or CIA because if it wasn't, it could as well have been. It has a public ledger and thus you can look into everyone's wallet, see how much they have, where they got it from and you can track the history of every single bitcoin. You could do the social credit system with bitcoin. It's very different with privacy coins like Monero and Pirate chain where you can't see all of this. There are more and more crypto currencies implementing some sort of privacy functions but mostly it's a joke. The whole crypto market is extremely immature - even declared joke coins shoot through to the moon. That doesn't mean all crypto is sh.t. There are 10K different coins and some will be useful - certainly privacy coins - once the social credit system kicks in and is combined with your bank account, people will start using it on a massive scale. As @sixgun has said, most or all first generation crypto currencies - and most of the newer ones - will go to zero, eventually, of course including Bitcoin. But some are here to stay, maybe some of the existing ones, maybe some that don't exist yet, who knows. There are very good use-cases (online payments) and therefore cryptos are here to stay.
The thought though that this could make gold worthless, is ridiculous.  Gold is here to stay, even much more.

It should also be noted for newbies, it's considerably more difficult to store than gold because unlike gold it can tone over time (if exposed to air), not to mention milk spots. Well, that's another 5 topics in their own right but at least it should briefly be mentioned. Also, if the budget is low, I assume there is no budget for a proper safe, and silver isn't that easy to hide because of its volume. That being said, I started with both metals and would do the same again, specially when your total stack is only about 3 Sovereigns, you'd need to break up ca 30% of your total stack, if you needed to sell something. I think at least a bit of silver should be part of every stack. You can then tick it off, if you want and focus on gold.

2 questions you got to have clarity on is
    What to buy
    Where to buy

My answer for your £1k budget would be initially to spend the full k on sovs and the cheapest possible sovs. Or 1/4oz  Brits if you can buy at a reasonable premium.
As to where, I would go to the main dealers first time round (Atkinson's, bullion by post, chards, Hatton garden metals etc)

My two pence worth, take both @Gordy and @ChrisSilver advice buy a tube of brits and 1 full sovereign to start with then keep adding a sovereign every month ( if affordable) and a tube of coins every four months ( go without the sovereign on months 4/8/12).

Its a hard one to give advice on this one as members have their own preferences on gold or silver but if its a mixture i'd maybe try a couple of sovs at around the £330.00 mark ish on here and add a tube of silver 1oz Brits for £565.00 ish but that will take you up to the £1200.00 mark.. or the BRITS and 1 sovereign to start you off and then when you get the bug you will generally get a feel on what you prefer in regards to gold and silver and as Chris said the sovs are a good buy and easily sold on if you need a quick sale
