Thank you guys for all of the super helpful comments! I have been mulling over my current set up and I do agree that it is certainly not ideal.
What I have decided to do is get a proper sized (1kg proprietary) crucible for the current furnace I have and then use it to melt larger 10oz bars into shot that I can then use with the smaller ceramic crucible. To be honest, having experienced both ways, I think I prefer to use the hand tools although I am not sure if the cost of MAP/Propane will put me off this method.
Once again, thank you all so much, not only for your concern but for your helpful and non-judgemental advice, I truly appreciate it! See you in the next one!!

@BackyardBullion I too am sad we lost him. It was only a week ago I was chatting with him.
But that's for another subject,  topic.

The crucial should not touch the bottom,  I worry what damage it can cause inside.
Molten metal bouncing scared me too. I needed to get you onboard because I am genuinely concerned about her safety.
    Thanks bud

Just getting around to watching this - last night was a sad night after hearing the news about Big Lorry.
Personally - I think that crucible is WAY to big. Having it sit on the base of the chamber is in my opinion a very bad idea.
Also, you can see that that crucible was not designed for that furnace as it does not fit height wise, having it sticking up like that is not heat efficient.
Also, when you are pouring the silver, it has to travel a long way all the way from the bottom of the crucible to the lip - silver is dense and as you can see when you have a long way to travel, even the slightest of angles can cause the silver to come out very fast. So that final pour you saw it basically bounce off the mold. I am glad to see you have a good set up and that silver did not cause any damage - but bouncing molten silver is never a good thing. If there was some particle dust or even drops of water/moisture it could have caused a pop explosion and spattered hot molten metal in any direction.
My personal advise would be to go much smaller. That furnace is a fairly hefty one and is (in my opinion) going to take you a fair amount of time to master and get things working. If you had a smaller one you could hone your skills and be safer too! Just think about the weight of the crucible, silver etc. That sized crucible is designed for pouring 1kg+ sized bars - not 1 or 2 oz pieces.
Never the less, you have some good looking smaller pieces coming out from the ceramic crucible!
    Good luck and stay safe.

Your welcome,  that tip about not putting in your graphite crucible until the temperature is at least 3/4 was given to me by BYB.  It's to save using alot of Crucibles,  as they don't last long. I am not sure how I feel about it sitting on the bottom. I fear you might cause damage to your machine or yourself.
Seriously I am tagging in BYB. he should confirm and more importantly help you get the right one for your furnace.
@BackyardBullion     SOS!!! PLEASE REPLY TO THIS!!!!!

For her safety more than anything.
