  1. I acquired in 1992 both a .925 silver (2500 max mintage) and an antiqued bronze (5000 max mintage) of the 1990 Royal Mint release of the Pistrucci Waterloo medal.
  2. Quite a while. Started in 1984, slow. Picked up the pace late 80s to 2000. Slowed down, then to a trickle lately since retirement in 2012. The boating accident was discouraging but at least I left most of my guns at home! (LoL) 😎
  3. I’ll start. The total melt value for my current gold, silver, platinum & palladium collection/stack is US$269,440.61 Care to share yours?
  4. 1985 struck China 1/10 troz Au Bao Yuan Vault Protector (10K max mintage)
  5. Don’t have a picture of my set (and mine are not slabbed) but I found this on the Bay of E to show detailed pictures. https://www.ebay.com/itm/144977175686
  6. Most probably. My favorite from the Pobjoy Mint is a 1995 Isle of Man proof set of 1/4 Bimetallic Au/Pt Angel and Noble. COA states 1 of 500.
  7. 1987 Isle of Man proof 1 Angel (with Papal Visit privy). 1 of 100 COA from Pobjoy Mint.
  8. I acquired 1 of these during the 2013 release from the US Mint. The 2009 UHRDE is hands down the most beautiful and desirable coin from the US Mint (I have 4 of those acquired during the 2009 release).
  9. Unable to check out Sovereign & Panda topics, but what could be sensitive in there?
  10. It is best to buy locally at the best price you can get. No anxiety and worries while waiting on international shipping. Also, you get to examine the item or pick and choose from the inventory. With regards to sharing knowledge and information, I freely share any I’ve learned and gathered through the years. My pet peeve with TSF is limiting certain areas of discussion to paying members (not only buy & sell opportunities).
  11. On the other end of the spectrum: One of best/modestly priced classic masterpiece coin - UHRDE https://www.usmint.gov/coins/coin-medal-programs/ultra-high-relief-double-eagle
  12. 1 troz Au BU 2024 UK £100 Britannia or BU 2024 UK £100 Britannia & Lady Liberty (bullion issue)
  13. Prior to 2000, RM issued BU 5 Sovereign coins with a ‘U’ mint mark. Beginning year 2000, they issued BU 5 Sovereign coins with no ‘U’ mint mark (last they were done was with King Edward VII). The first 500 struck were sent to PCGS for grading along with their struck order. I have the 23rd & 56th struck 5 Sovereigns with MS69 grade. They did the same for first struck 2000 Sovereigns. Don’t own any but they are out there.
  14. The US Mint $100 Au proof coin will have a 30.61 mm diameter. This collectible coin is sculpted in 24K Gold high relief, further highlighting the very special designs. The RM version is 32.69 mm in diameter (no mention of high relief). https://catalog.usmint.gov/liberty-and-britannia-2024-gold-coin-24YA.html?cm_mmc=ExactTarget-_-Campaign-_-20240120LibertyBritanniaCoinProgram-_-23RG_Img&utm_source=Campaign&utm_medium=EMAIL&utm_content=23RG_Img&utm_campaign=20240120LibertyBritanniaCoinProgram&cm_mmca1=Marketing&cm_mmca2=&cm_mmca3=&cc=LIBRI
  15. The 2023 St Helena 5 Pound 1 troz Au looks a lot better and true to W Wyon’s St George & the dragon design. I would be interested in acquiring that in the secondary market at a more reasonable price.
  16. Maybe a few at a time. Never all. 1/10 troz Bao Yuan Vault Protector 1855 Queen Victoria Sovereign & 1868 Queen Isabela II 4 Pesos with 3-legged Money Toad Gollum and his precious: 2009 5 Sovereigns
  17. For British coinage, KC3 is obverse and Liberty/Britannia is reverse but it is the other way in the US. Your default obverse is the monarch (which the US fought to be free of) and our obverse is the side with Liberty on it. Clear as mud?
  18. All US Mint coins have ‘Liberty’ on the obverse (and the year). Standard on all US coinage.
  19. RM will have proof and BU bullion issues with KC3 on reverse. US Mint will have just proof issue with two shores with trees and pond in between for reverse.
  20. Gold is not an investment tool. It is a hedge for preserving wealth. The buying power of gold has been constant for the past 4 centuries or so. It is the fiat currencies that have been losing their value/buying power hence the increase in price of a troz of gold (in relation to fiat currencies).
  21. From RM description, they are probably reusing the 1818 Crown SG&D design with garter motto. I much prefer the 1820 5 Sovereign pattern with no garter motto that the RM re-adopted from the 2009 5 Sovereign proof and BU issues.
  22. Maybe it was the company that owned or operated the bullion vault in the twin towers basement.
  23. You’re probably right. Specially with bulk substitutions, dealers can save money by skipping the grade and just having the coins authenticated.
  24. AFAIK, the early submission were in batches or group of coins and were only authenticated (hence 1 of xxx). Later submissions were graded and no longer had the 1 of xx number batch). The more popular of these WTC recovery coins would be the American Eagles (Au, Pt & Ag) with 2001 year and MS69 grade.
