Seller have some of same year but only this one with that dent. I changed it . My worries was more for patina. Thanks. looking the dent with seller glass make me think it was a mint issue, because a direct hit has to be very strong to produce a dent like that, look similar to a bubble or something present on the striking surface (sorry for my English)

Thanks. Yes patina worried me because the two tone color, but seller had many of them of same year so i guess that maybe they were rolled in a tube directly from mint, who know. About that defect yes could be something that hit hard the surface. I think ill ask fir a change.

In your opinion a pinkish patina can turn yellow after a deep polish? I cleaned some coins gently but i obtained a shiny pink color, but i think jewelers use other methods maybe. thanks

Thanks for the input. Measures and weight and thickness are tested and ok. i bought also a Victorian sovereign scale, i think that if it pass these test at least “at weight” value im safe. Interesting what you say about owning gold until 1970, will try google that and see the story, I didn’t know that.

Hello, i use this thread because i have a similar question, for who is in silver melting etc. I have really a lot of silver from family that I don’t want clean nor use so… If i decide to made a brick from old spoons and silverware, what is the average and honest “lose of weight “ after the fusion? And about purity, im thinking if is better to refine 0.800 silver to have a pure kg, or keep the 0.800 purity and made a 1250gr brick to have a pure kg inside (hope my English make ut understandable) thanks

Thanks for the reply. I think they come from a jewelry so maybe were hard polished yes. About fakes, fir my math even if “fake”, if dimensions and weight are correct they still be gold, or at least not much less (i dont think tungsten is a possibility) thanks

I think it’s alloy too, but for what i know silver is present in just some part per 1000. The fact is that I don’t see just one like this , or few os same year. Im SURE i see some (9/10 in some years) of different years, all were gillick and one or two first crown portrait. Strange that a forgery made fakes from many different years no? But again, maybe im too picky and i pay too much attention. As said, a friend assured me that he have 1/2 krug wich same “problem “.

Some silver have to be because if you use only gold and copper you obtain a brown/red one, like very recent ones. Im not good with metallurgy but i think i am safe about near all gold content (as said if weight thickness and diameter is in specific i think it has to be gold), but can have a fake-not official sovereign or have one with a little less gold. I posted because i was curious if someone else have some “more yellow” sovereign, and if its a polish thing or an alloy one.

Don’t think mounted, but I suspect jewelry polished them hard… but idk if you take a normal sovereign and polish it heavy, it will be like mine or a shining-pink/reddish one. At least i think its gold, my ancient Victorian sovereign scale say that xd coming from coin collecting and military medals collecting i am very paranoid on everything that is not textbook…

Is strange because some shining coin like 1982 ones are shining, but still remain pink reddish. i ask myself also if some coin can have silver in the alloy… @LaurenceChard if you want give an opinion, its welcome. Yes i read about that, but I thought it happened with old version sovereign only. I bought them bow and then at weight, no special added value. Maybe i can ask at some UK big dealer? Maybe they see many of coins and can tell me their opinion, if they see them etc…

No, not for sure, come from an old jeweler of my city. For polishing i mean using a cloth like cape cod or similar. Honestly considering dimension and weight i think its gold anyway, and in a percentage near or equal of a non shining one, but i still want understand better the thing and understand if its a “fake” ir not. I own no krug, but as said a friend of mine noticed the same thing. But like me, he bought aniway after weight/dimension check.

Even changing positions the darker coun will always look different because details have more contrast, shining one not. Like make a picture of a oxidated silver coin near a fresh mint one. But returning at color issue, any here noticed this thing on their sovereign or krug? Or tried polishing them?

Consider bad pictures taken with an iphone and the fact the right one shine under light. i post another comparison between two different coins, and not of same year,on the right a “shining one”, but in this case the center is bright and shining, the border where is the writing is less shining with what it look like mint luster, like the left one.

I thought also that but my doubt is that polishing a sovereign it have to be yellow as right coin or if have to become shiny but a reddish shine. My little stack is in a bank box so can’t compare the others but im getting paranoid xd
