Being a made up set might make sense as I found this too (the coin envelope was empty and I was hoping I hadn't lost it but it might be in here)!

Also possibly of interest are a couple of newspaper clippings he had.
Here's one that's a snapshot of the time

Some time ago, a few years before he passed away during the first covid wave at 96 years old (he was playing golf six months before!) I received a collection of coins from my grandad. He didn't tell me much about them at all other than that he enjoyed collecting and ordering them. As well as these there are lots, and lots of others I may have questions about but these are the boxed ones, some of which contain gold coins so if it's okay I'll post them here and ask later on the silver forum about the other peculiar individual silver ones he had (as well as loads of the old silver half crowns, sixpences and all sorts of other stuff).

Any comments, advice etc on any of them are welcomed, even if it turns out some are copies, not collectable, junk etc. I won't take offence. I have just started going through them and find them fascinating. Looking to do a bit of collecting and stacking after reading up on it all and am looking forward to the journey!

There are a lot so I have created a shared an imgur photos album and have linked the main overhead shots of these selected coins/sets here as an overview. Can take more pics of reverses etc if it helps!

Here is a link to the shared album with some shots of each set. https://imgur.com/a/drDpW5u

    Thanks!

Recently come back from India and emptied a safety deposit box in India while I was there (no longer required). Managed to bring back into UK fair amount of gold without being questioned by customs. Visited Saint James in Manchester today to deposit some items and took opportunity photograph the family entire gold stack:
A lot gold held in the form of Indian jewellery
I have no idea how many oz gold is in jewellery form and 18 to 22 carat gold with some items having real diamonds. Best part of the gold stack Queens Beast bullion coins.

Six months stacking fortunate picked up most of the stack when spot prices much lower. Most of the jewellery purchased by my late dad when gold spot prices $250 oz.
Hand poured silver by BYB adding Tetris and Puzzle set to this collection

10 oz coins have 50 of them

    2 oz Queens Beast

Gold stack 60 oz unknown quantity gold jewellery. Silver stack 1,400 oz.

I've still not seen any analysis of what happened on Friday (other than gold went up a lot and then went down a lot!).  The sell-off seems even stranger when you are expecting Iran to retaliate over the weekend (which it did).  Part of the sell-off could have been computer generated when the price hit a certain level, thus pushing it down further, but the mystery remains, who initiated the price smack-down?

Started seriously stacking/collecting gold just over 3 years ago and breached the 1KG level late last year. The forum has been a massive part of this journey, @ChrisSilver I thank you for creating the community and the work you put in daily to cultivating a thriving environment, long may it continue. Started with silver, then moved onto bullion gold and proof coins thereafter. There's also a bunch of others to thank for the help, guidance, advice, encouragement and inspiration to make it to this point (I'm sure I've left out a load of other peeps):

With the lovely weather of the bank holiday weekend I felt like sharing my collection so here it is. I took a load of pretty pics before putting everything back in lock up. I think I've accumulated a decent collection. I have a few outliers that I'll most probably sell on the forum at some point which are not part of below so keep a look out. I also may part with the bullion Britannia set (feel free to drop me a message if you're interested).
What next? I feel I have enough from an investment portfolio for now but I may start to pick up a few key older sovs, we'll see. Let me know what you think and thanks to you all again:

I had an interesting conversation with the lady at the Post Office when posting a five gram gold bar SD to another TSF member earlier today.
She asked me what was in my package. I lied and said it was a legal document but it was obvious from the shape of the package it wasn't.  I complained that it was intrusive of the Post Office to insist on knowing what's in every package (if it's not a prohibited item) and that people might prefer to lie about the contents rather than disclose what they were sending if it was valuable as disclosure might increased the risk of the package being stolen in transit.  She made it clear that if you do not disclose what's in the package your sending the Post Office's insurance cover will not apply in the event of a claim.
I have checked the Post Office's terms and conditions on this and she is right.  You have to disclose what you're sending if you want the SD insurance cover to apply.

I started buying gold over 20 years ago but have only charted value for 20 years.
In that 20 years, gold has had an average increase of over 9% - that's more than any other global index I follow.
Given that fact, I don't feel the need to study it any deeper other than buying dips; although IMHO any 2024 dip will be very modest when compared to 2023 fluctuations - but I've been wrong before.............

Abyss got a reaction from Kitalon in Gold 2024: How low can it go?
Are we sharing charts, please sir can I share my charts? I have the 1 hour chart of Gold as part of my list of instruments that I pay attention to all the time. Sometimes I go into the higher time frames only to reinforce my belief that Gold has a lot higher to go over the next 2-10 years. My current long term analysis (looking at the monthly chart) broke above all time high $2080 was rejected. Have three months downside potential (end of March 2024) then if these monthly candles have not broken below $1820 then we could have another attempt and breaking and clearing the all time high in which case my price target would be $2800 in the next two years (measured move from the impulse up). We could also have another attempt at the all time high and fail in which result prices moving between $1660 to 1760 over the course of the year. Establish support at these level then my price target would be $2575 but would take more time to achieve (5 years). This is the problem with technical analysis is that the data is always changing and your analysis has to change with it. Have a constantly moving target both at the price and time axis. I personally would love lots of turns and twists testing this level and that level on the hourly chart.
I am telling you it is impossible to predict with accuracy the long time chart of any financial instrument. The Gold chart is showing you it has lots of upside potential and as a result I will be holding onto my physical gold (for investment, safety, peace of mind it provides) into the long term. I want to see likes of CNBC, CNN, BBC talk about Gold hitting $3,000, visit my local hairdressers and hear the conversation that he bought some gold and so has some of his patrons. I will then know it is time to sell my physical Gold and move into other assets.

Thank you, I think I understand the cost averaging concept a lot better now. Listening to everyone here has definitely changed the way I'm thinking now. But it still doesn't make me want to buy without delay, I want to be more like Harry carefully choose my moments and end up half a million richer than Amanda. 😜

This is sad and as a seller this situation is always at the back of my mind when posting anything of value out.
This is why I do not mind if it takes an extra day yo arrive, the most important is that it does arrive.
Hopefully it will turn up as money can  not replace the lost ring.

@Kitalon I am in the exact boat you have describe my stack is exclusively has only 1 oz Gold coins. I had sovereigns and even some 1/4 gold coins but eventually sold them all. As for quickest liquidity option for 1 oz Gold coins all you have do visit Chards/Atkinsons see which dealer offers the best buy back rate. You will find if you were to buy a single coin from a bullion dealer and then upon delivery decided to sell back to the same dealer you would lose on average 3% plus postage cost for (to & from) the dealer provided spot price not changed significantly. Reduce these costs even further purchased from reputable Facebook groups/the forum itself. I have also taken 1 oz Gold coins and exchanged them for several percent over spot in India. Already had safety deposit box to me it made sense to stack 1 oz Gold coins due to the convenience of storage (fit 10 into a single Royal Mint tube), the lower premiums (both buy/sell) and the high liquidity of 1 oz Gold coins.
But in the end have you ever held a 1 oz Gold coin? I remembering holding mine and it was very special moment and I knew if I was to buy Gold this was the form factor that made the most sense to me and still does......

Million dollar question the future asset price of a financial instrument into the future is inherently uncertain especially in the current technological time living in today. I have been following the Tesla story / Optimus Gen 2 robot and the improvements made over the last three years from a man in a suit to the current technological state of the general purpose Tesla bot is unbelievable. A recent webcast with Sandy Munro (automotive engineer who specializes in machine tools and manufacturing) given unprecedented access to the Austin gigafactory during the release of the Cybertruck stated Tesla bot will be in useful production roles on the shop floor in the gigafactory by the end of this year. I believe by the end of the decade Tesla will be selling a general purpose robot first to businesses and then to consumers.
If this is the case then you have to ask yourself the major ramifications of a 30 trillion dollar labour market being disrupted by AI/general purpose robot. What will major UK home builders be selling a house for in 2030 when they have replaced all the bricklayers, joiners, plumbers and plasterers with Tesla bot that works 24/7 charges on cheap off peak electricity and not part of any union, does not require wages, holidays pensions and never reports in sick?
What will be the price of a barrel of oil, tonne of copper, an oz of Gold when the major mining/refining companies able to buy a Tesla bots and significantly increase production and at same time significantly reduce labour costs? Ramifications of what about to happened in the next six years (IMHO) is food for thought.
