QB,s 1 oz Gold Proof Full set + Completer. Was wondering if anyone else here on TSF has the complete set and had them graded? Any advice on grading would be most appreciated. @Spanishsilverhas recommended grading from a sellers point of view but I am still undecided.

„I had a dream“ or using the famous words of Magnus Magnussen „I’ve started so I’ll finish“. I was always fascinated by the QB,s series. I started collecting the 1oz Gold bullion coins but then decided to go for the limited 1oz Gold Proofs. I was wondering if anyone else here on TSF  has one of the Worldwide 380 Sets?

    Gold or silver?
Assuming gold as the silver was reverse frosted I believe. If you get a straight run of 70s then boom you have increased the value substantially.
If you end up with a few 70s and the rest pf68s/69s you have still increased value on some but made the set awkward to sell in its entirety.
Personally I'd keep raw especially if you're not intending to sell anytime soon. Just enjoy the coins and the fact you're investment is doing very well.
@GoldDiggerDave has recently went through a very similar situation, so he's probably best suited to offer further/definitive advice.

A few years ago I decided to invest a few Euros in either Diamonds, Whisky or Gold! Not having a clue about anything of the said so I went for Gold. Digging in I became aware of the QB,s collection. So being an expat and proud of British Heritage decided that was the way to go. Started with the Lion, Unicorn etc. BU Coins which are minted in their millions. Digging in deeper discovered that they were also on offer in limited and Proof quality. Didn’t know what Gold Proof (Whisky yes) meant then. The Crux of the matter being what exactly do you want from your investment?
I decided to go for the collector, Rare and Quality which always pays off. Takes time I agree but the premium is well worth the wait.
I have the complete QB,s 1 oz Gold Proof Set which is an amazing sight. I’ve asked my Gold Dealer hier in Germany if I was to sell would 40.000€ be an acceptable price? He agreed as very reasonable. BUT you have to find a BUYER!

    Hi Chorlton,
thanks for your reply. I also had doubts about coins being bought online if they’re genuine or not! I was thinking of buying a Gold Screener or whatever they’re called for around €1.200,00 but doesn’t make sense for 5-10 Coins. So I came up with the idea that if I can’t determine the genuinity then who can? So I went to a reputable Gold Dealer offering my coins for sale they have all the equipment required for authenticating etc. ! Refused the ridiculous offer then went home feeling quite smirky not having spent a single penny but relieved that my coins were as expected GOLD.

I was asked a couple of months ago if I was going to Grade my QB,s collection. I was undecided then and didn’t really understand the complicity or better said the reason why! I understand that a collector would only buy the best. My QB,s Completer was ordered but due to Brexit delivered 5 weeks later! So I can’t get a first release grading! It’s the same Coin so why is it 1st release? I know NGC specifies that the Coin must be delivered inside 4 weeks of release. I was always in belief that a Proof Coin was/is the best Mintage quality at this moment in time so where’s the difference? Do they have different Cameo/ Frosted Coins in the US? Just asking! And to be quite honest a Proof Coin in its original presentation box means more to me than the same Coin in a Plastic/Blister packaging with a barcode! So here we go again Buyer or Seller that’s the question? I’ve decided against grading but I suppose it’s just a personal preference. I’ve always thought that companies jump on the bandwagon as soon as money,s involved! Is grading really necessary?

It’s a personal choice, my new proof coins are mainly graded but not all. This is to confirm they are genuine, the quality of them and keep my sticky paws off them. My much older coins while kept in capsules to protect them are handled as normal. I prefer PF70 and ms70 coins but also anything that is interesting.
