  1. This arrived just today from @SilverTrader If the rest of the coins in the series are this good, it could be a very nice series.
  2. I think it'd work better on some coins than others but is a very interesting idea. How long does it take to do a 1oz round-I'm assuming it depends on the complexity of the design? Is anyone doing this as a service? I wouldn't mind buying some.
  3. Geopolitical uncertainty can certainly drive increases in precious metal prices and given the apparent mutiny in Russia this could be a good time to buy.
  4. Unfortunately safety deposit boxes aren't as fool proof as they should be-there have been cases in the UK of contents going missing and the bank shrugging their shoulders. Then there's incompetence on the part of the bank.
  5. I've seen some amazing (and expensive!) designs from the likes of Power coin over the years but I don't think I've ever seen any of them for sale. I'm sure they'd make amazing display pieces and conversation starters but are they worth it? How likely would you be to make your money back if you sold them on?
  6. Not a coin (not the easiest thing to photograph either) but still Stirling silver.
  7. Not seen these before, they look very impressive. The one in the ebay link posted above is £145, is that a fair price for them?
  8. Added my two cents. Would be interested to hear more about this. I expect this isn't a common subject for a master's thesis.
  9. I found a company online called stamboul jewellery who are apparently based in Turkey. They make some amazing looking pieces, mostly silver rings, for a very reasonable price. They have a website but seem to mostly sell on ebay which is where I found them. The question is, given how easy it is to buy fake reviews and the amount of fake silver coins out there, how can you be sure that the nice shiny thing you bought of a foreign company on ebay is legit? There's plenty of big names that make fashion jewellery and if you look at the mens rings you'll often see in the small print that they're silver plated brass or similar. I know I could send a purchase to an assay office here in the UK but I expect that'd probably cost at least as much as the cost of the piece. I know some jewellers have XRF machines, would I be able to go to a larger jewellers and ask them to test an item for a small fee? What about those companies which offer to buy silver or gold? What's the best option here?
  10. I'd like to see Putin try to introduce a gold back currency when he's had most of his gold reserves seized. I expect he knew there would be economic sanctions and was counting on that to help get him out of a hole but it's failed miserably.
  11. Some people here seem to be confusing certain 'woke' ambitions by a minority (which they don't even seem to have even tried to understand and usually in the US) with the gay rights movement in the UK that this coin is celebrating. Gay people have only been allowed to even get married since 2014, it was illegal to even be gay in the UK until 1967. I'm straight but I'll still be picking one of these coins up. I don't collect 50ps but I appreciate the design and it celebrates an important cultural milestone-a lot has improved in the last 50 years.
