jultorsk got a reaction from Agaupl in British Monarchs Series - They Couldn’t, Could They?
It's kinda cute how Brenda has copy-pasted the bit in italics, probably from someone high up in Marketing... including the concluding quotation mark. Remains a mystery what pearls of wisdom were at the front end of that quote, we'll never know!
Haven't collected the series but feeling gutted for those who did.

I always like to measure my wage in gold pounds - i.e. if they were paying me in sovereigns, what would I be earning? It's a sobering thought.
Let's say in 2000 you earned £20,000 per year, that would have been approximately 333 sovereigns (£60 per sov).
If you earn £20,000 now, you're only earning 50 sovereigns a year (£400 per sov). Even at £40,000 per annum you're still only taking home 100 sovereigns. Not even a third of your 2000 era wealth.

jultorsk got a reaction from Gildeon in Ordered gold from UK to Ireland and was hit with VAT!
Sovereigns and halfs are on the EU list of VAT exempt investment gold under HTS code 71189000.
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52022XC1125(02)
If your parcel has not been released to you yet, do not pay the VAT, instead send the Irish post customer service a message outlining the above. They can sort it out with the customs. That's how it's done on the mainland at least. Good luck.

I'm not going to collect any other series from The Royal Mint from now on. I'll stick with the 007 series as I'm about to take delivery of the 4th coin in the next few weeks. But that's it, no more after that. If they can cut what is arguably one of the best series they've come out with in recent years, then they can cut any future series at any time for no reason
In a single master stroke of self destruction, they've just removed any and all incentive for their customers to collect their coins - other than one-offs. Talk about shooting oneself in the foot! Jeeeeeeeeeez. What an absolute disgrace the Royal Mint are and, on top of everything else, they have the audacity to self proclaim they're a 'trusted brand'. The only thing I trust them to do consistently is to royally screw over their customer base at every opportunity. Grrrrr!

jultorsk reacted to Touvex in 2022 jubilee quintuple sovereign - MS70 - rare with box and coa
Beautiful design, one to tuck away as per all jubilee coins, was easily a 3.2k+ coin, and in my opinion under valued in this market. Selling at retail plus grading fee, 2800 plus post. Full box and coa and even the original royal mint brown outer box. (Look at that amazing matte luster)

jultorsk reacted to AndrewSL76 in Investigation into Historic Coin Pricing by The Royal Mint
Translation:
FORMAL STATEMENT BY THE ROYAL MINT
STARTS
Firstly, we would like to thank you for forcing these issues to our unwanted attention. We understand you have concerns and we welcome the opportunity to ignore them. The Royal Mint strives to provide customers with low premium products at high premium prices, and we would like to reiterate that we take all customer feedback seriously. (NB until you buy something you are NOT a customer, so please feel free to spend spend spend).
We have a responsibility to ensure that we provide our customers with quality, authentic boxes from reputable dealers. These are not cheap. As such, our pricing reflects a variety of factors, not limited to but including, rarity of the wood, condition, their historical significance, demand, as well as the very expensive cardboard packaging. Before establishing a retail price, The Royal Mint carefully ignores price guides and market trends.
As we source our historic boxes from high end carpenters to ensure we can make enough money for the terrible condition coins, our pricing model is obviously quite different to dealers selling great coins in flips. We are unable to compare or offer comment on valuations provided by external sources.
With regards to specific issues raised with products such as the Victoria Young Head Crown, we have taken this feedback, torn it up, and are working to ensure that we never have to read it again. We always want our customers to make informed decisions before purchasing, but on this occasion it is not helpful so we won't.
We are always working to review and enhance the pricing of our historic coin offering and so we are not taking your feedback on board. As a trusted brand, we acknowledge that there may have been instances where we have not charged enough for the tat we offer. However, we would like to reassure you that we are committed to improving the bank balance by offering more for more.

What’s the purpose of doing this as a 2-coin set instead of a medal, other than to milk the design dry? 🤷🏻♂️

jultorsk reacted to westminstrel in Gazette Proclamation - Waterloo Medal (Great Engravers 2-coin set?)
Who knew this would come SO FAST!?
Most likely part of the Great Engravers range, and forming a trilogy of Pistrucci’s works including St. George and the Dragon.
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/4571112
For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription “· CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 10 POUNDS ·” and the date of the year
And for the reverse either:
(a) a depiction of Prince Regent George of Britain (later King George IV), Emperor Francis II of Austria, Emperor Alexander I of Russia and King Frederick William III of Prussia surrounded by symbolic scenes representing peace; or
(b) a depiction of the Duke of Wellington and Prussian Commander Gerhard Von Blucher, represented as two horsemen accompanied by a representation of Nike, the goddess of flying and the chariot of Zeus, surrounded by figures of men with serpent legs.
