I’m conserving a gold proof 2002 £5 this week,  so might drop a few pictures.

I offer a coin conservation service? Only £22.50 for the coin.
Scratched? Most probably but depends if the smudges come off and then you can see what’s left behind, sometimes you can be very lucky as what can appear to be scratches are residue marks other times you are not so lucky.

if you picked the 2017 sovereign up cheap then it’s possibly worth the gamble to conserve.  I also offer NGC grading if needed.

    Cheers
    Dave.

Hard to tell.  I wouldn’t pay more than just above spot.
@GoldDiggerDave Thoughts on this impaired proof?

It is absolutely not a die number.
Die numbers were first introduced for Half Sovs in 1863. None present before that date.
Note: At some point I will share my work on half Sovs which provides a much clearer view of Die numbers than Marsh.

@Roy take your capital back and reinvest the £12k by hoovering up as many Memorial and Coronation Proof Sovereign issues as you can find at the current depressed prices and tuck them away for a few years 😎
Nice profit by the way 👍

Can't really answer the question as:
    a) We don't know the gentleman's reason for liquidity and the intended purpose for the 'cash'
    b) We don't know what the real profit actually is once inflation is taken into account.

Anyway, my advice would be to blow the lot on 5kg bars of silver as it's going to the moon. I saw this on Youtube so it's deffo true.

I was talking to a dealer in the US who was recently offered an amazing 2300 Morgan Dollars by a sole individual.
Apparently collected from the Mid Sixties to the mid 2000’s and the passed on when the collector passed away.
Whilst the stack was a mixed bag in terms of quality, that’s really quite an achievement just in terms of volume.
Something for us to aim at!

That's the problem. I don't wish to have a huge collection and be dead . If you have a nice pension and enjoying retirement then keep on collecting. My plan was to reduce the collection over time to supplement a pension and keep a few nice coins to dribble over in the old peoples home and to make sure the grandkids still visit lol . I don't really know what the end plan will be.  Storing  a large collection in old age would make one very vulnerable . This stacking bug should usually start at an early age , which is the age you can least afford to .

2300 Morgan dollar's at £45 to £50 on Atkinsons call it £50 to account for perhaps a good number of rare ones that's £115,000. That's not a bad chunk of change.

I'm trying, Don't think I'll get there though. Got another 25 to 30 years of collecting to have the same time period of collecting.
2300 Morgan Dollars. The collector must have really loved the coin.
