Comparing the two coins side by side looks obvious to me, and I can understand why it is so challenging for the RM to strike this coin.Technically for me, it is like comparing apples and oranges. I don't have these coins in hand (only the RM silver) but the Alderney Una, looks so flat, dull and lifeless compared with the RM Una

    Awesome. Truly awesome.
Although I don't think these qualify as full stack photos. I count 74 oz, where's the other 0.25 oz?! 🤣

I rather think of it as they only gained £14,000 😄
I think it'll be a total click fest, gone in moments if the site doesn't crash. It's very hard to see how the next one will lose money, and there's big potential upside if it performs anything remotely like Una.

I see there's quite some hype surrounding this gold 2oz. So far I have only heard of xxxx price sale, but no confirmation/proof by anyone. When checking through eBay sold items that Londoncoincompany had sold one at £10k but took that with a pinch of salt considering they are ludicrous at the best of times, then a week or so later I checked again and it wasn't in the sold listings.
I was watching a numistacker video last week (he's made quite a few on this coin for some reason) could have been 2 weeks ago where he mentioned a sold figure of 10k but again there was no evidence of that, if these have sold in these price brackets, and people know, why are they so shy to link them?
Today Numi did another video mentioning one at £15k, (the eBay one mentioned in this thread) but given the fact that regal is on here and also numistacker and they clearly know each other, but no mention from numi that it was an acquaintance from TSF, the possibility of it to do better could have been there.
I'm sitting on the fence right now that the Gold Una is actually selling for these crazy prices unless someone has a link to actual sales (eBay with feedback) or elsewhere. I think there could be eBay bidders doing some fun and games due to the prices, making bids and not paying, that's what I think might have happened to the one from Londoncoins
So does anyone have an actual link to a genuine sale at 5 figures?

My gold and my 10oz silver bars. Will compare this time next years. Should be a good chunk more gold in there

Wow, your spreadsheet shows a lot of variation from the norm, and not just on the 2 suspects. It just goes to show that the manufacturing of soverigns is not an exact art.
For what my opinion is worth, I think there's enough doubt, especially on the 1903, to rightly suspect them of forgery. Can they be returned to the seller and you present your doubts with the evidence you've presented here?
He may refund or exchange them, but ask him to test them at least. I guess he should have specific gravity testing equipment to at least prove they are 22k.

The legends on both do not look sharp which makes me think cast copies.
I would get down the local jewelers and ask them to xrf, if they come up 22ct you can sell and move on or hold. Either way you will sleep easy.

@Melon have you carried out a SG test on them? With your accurate scales you should get an idea if they are gold. Measuring the dimensions can be tricky, the SG test is super easy.

Thanks for the highlight but I think im a bit late to the party to add anything to be quite honest!

I am tempted to say both are cast copies. The 03 has no detail an wearing isn’t consistent
the 15 has a raised hairline which is either a mint error or a copy mark

You've all responded to the thread, so forgive me for the notification but thought you may be interested in further findings! 😄
Firstly some measurements. I did all 10 half sovereigns (the tight fits being the top 2) and a few other random coins for control purposes. I think it's fair to say I've learned it's quite difficult to measure coin dimensions and particularly with thickness I'd get different readings in different places, so maybe a small pinch of salt with those. I think the weights are good, the scales seemed very consistent and I kept checking the calibration throughout. I've highlighted the standout variances.

Secondly some pictures as promised. A few duplicate shots in order to capture different lighting as requested, hope I did it right and these are a bit more useful!
    1903
(kind of looks like someone cleaned this with a brillo pad - it wasn't me!)

Very interested in thoughts on authenticity of coins, potential meaning of measurement variances, and recommendations on what you would do with these coins.
p.s. Before someone says it, yes the time spent on this now exceeds the value at stake but it's interesting -  ESSAY OVER!! 😊

This has turned into a very interesting conversation! This is all new to me, so very interesting to hear from you all. Obviously I'm rooting for them to be genuine, but if not then I'd rather be aware. Then I can decide whether to keep them purely for weight, sell them on (for gold content only with clear disclosure of course), or have a discussion with the dealer I purchased them from although I'm doubtful of a favourable outcome there.
From what I'm hearing above, it sounds like the details Booky mentioned may actually be a good sign if it is indeed a 'reverse A design 1903 Sydney' coin, as would match the expectation. Sounds like I need to better identify the mint mark and get a better shot of the coin surface to reveal clues as to whether it was struck or cast.
Tomorrow I will have hands on the two coins in question and intend to try and capture (A) better lit photos, (B) accurate weights and (C) accurate dimensions. Had some new toys arrive in the post to help! 😄 Will post the findings 👍

Maybe make it easy on yourself and just buy whichever has the lowest premium when you purchase. Over time you'll end up with a mix of both.

Received some Air tite tubes from @morezone today - thanks for the quick delivery especially over Christmas.
Everything all compacted and ready to go into a safe deposit box tomorrow, 35oz of Gold, 20oz of silver. If I’m being honest the silver is going in just to bulk it out as 35oz of gold doesn’t look like much haha.

Here comes the graded version. Awe-inspiring coin! The only problem is it's hard to photograph (updated with better lighting)...
